As rhubarb makes its sweet, tart, hot pink, and sassy way into our farmers market baskets, here’s one easy recipe to transform the odd vegetable into a silky compote. I dare you not to put a blob of this delightful mess all over everything! My mouth is still puckered from eating so much of this glorious dish.

Your eyes do not deceive you. This is breakfast that you can eat one-handed while walking to the bus stop, and it’s got just as much going for it a bowl of yogurt with granola and fruit. In fact, it is a bowl of yogurt — just in frozen, easily-grabbable popsicle form. Time to dig out those popsicle molds!

What I love about summer is the fruit. There are peaches and plums for pies, nectarines for dribbling down your chin, apricots for tarts, cherries for snacks, and all sorts of berries for breakfast — plus other melons, like cantaloupe and honeydew, to wrap ham around. But what other fruit offers a crunchy snack, a juice for drinking (with or without a boozy booster), seeds for spitting contests, and a big round shape for greasing and throwing around the pool, lake, or ocean (have you played greased pig yet this summer)?

It’s the watermelon. When it’s good, it’s really good, and needs little else to completely satisfy a craving for a cool, sweet treat.

It’s hot. The kind of hot that makes you not even want to go outside. The kind of hot that makes you consider a mesh top as work-appropriate attire. It’s OK, though. I got your chill pill. It’s a cold brew French press recipe that makes the best iced coffee, and it can be your new morning breeze.

If you are determined to kick the coffee shop habit and make your own iced coffee at home, flavored the way you like it, strong and heady and above all cold, I’m here to help. Here is how you make the best iced coffee you’ve ever had.

The freestanding handstand is daunting – nothing is keeping you from falling except your own balancing ability. There are plenty of resources to help you learn to balance at the top. But, as Logan Christopher of Legendary Strength points out, a lot of people neglect the kick up into the handstand, which is just as important.

The gymnastics-style kick up is the most effective way to get into the handstand position.

Cake-2 This post was originally published on this site

The beginning of my sophomore year in college, I had a moment that was both mundane and packed with meaning. It was around 6 or 6:30 p.m. on a Tuesday; I’d gone to the grocery store to get food for the next few days. Making my way to the produce section, I was hit hard by the sweet, buttery smells floating from the bakery’s gleaming glass cases. I was routinely assaulted by their tempting scents, and almost as routinely, I’d yield. I’d grab a couple cookies or a bear claw for an afternoon snack or to have after dinner.

But that day was different. I wanted a piece of cake, and I wanted it right then. For my evening meal. Not following it. As it.

Lentils slip in and out of my consciousness throughout the year, filling out warming stews and serving as a bed for braised meats during the winter, then resurging as a base for cold yet hearty salads in the summer. Every year I revisit this particular salad of lentils, cucumbers, olives, and mint tossed with a sherry vinaigrette, whether to dole out for lunches throughout the week or as a healthy contribution to a summer cookout.
