We all have those nights when the lure of the takeout menu or delivery app is almost magnetic, but if you’re committed to making something at home, you should try one of these easy meals that replicates your favorite restaurant dishes. Some require a little planning (as in prepping the ingredients to toss in the slow cooker), but there are quite a few options that you can make in 30 minutes or less.

If you’re still not convinced, open a bottle of wine, put on a great playlist, and make cooking the evening’s entertainment. You’ll feel pretty good when you sit down to the dinner you made yourself.

Over the past year, I’ve taken three trips to Mexico’s vibrant, chaotic capital city. My reasons for such frequent peregrinations can basically be boiled down to one ultra-compelling factor: the food. Compared to Mexican cuisine made here in the states, the food in Mexico is fresher; the ingredients more local; and the skilled cooks who prepare the tacos, tortas, and everything else are veritable masters of their art, often boasting years or even decades of experience making their one signature dish.

Do you have a Primal Blueprint Success Story you’d like to share? Then I want to hear from you!

Write it up and include a photo. Including both pre-Primal and post-Primal pics is best, but not required. Don’t worry if you’re not a chiseled Adonis. This isn’t a “who’s the most ripped” contest. Whether you’ve lost 100 pounds over two years of Primal living or you’ve simply managed to kick that Diet Coke habit, just tell me what going Primal has done for you. I’m looking for interesting and personal tales.

You can include details about your health history, how you found MDA and The Primal Blueprint, what has worked and what hasn’t, what differences you’ve seen in how you look and feel, and anything else you think readers might be able to learn from (that you’re open to sharing) are welcome. It doesn’t have to be a thousand word diatribe, but more than a couple paragraphs is best. Feel free to be creative with your story format, too. Remember, good stories usually have a beginning, a middle, and an end. And of course, honesty is king.

If you’ve ever thought about sending in your story but haven’t gotten around to it, then there is no better time than now!

mayos(2)(1)The Prize

A year’s supply of PRIMAL KITCHEN™ Mayo! That’s three jars of either my original avocado oil-based mayo, three jars of the new Chipotle Lime Mayo, or any combo of three, per month! Winner’s choice!

There are tons of great examples throughout MDA history, but here’s a top contender for one of the most memorable: The Unconquerable Dave. If you haven’t read it, do it now. You won’t regret it. YAWP!

Sure, coffee cake can be any cake-like substance served with coffee, but for me, there is only one kind of cake that I want sharing space with my cup — and that is a big square (it must be square) of rich, buttery cake topped with giant, cinnamon-scented crumbles. This one is my go-to favorite for all occasions.

I knew I had to include this endive-avocado salad as part of a Mother’s Day brunch, as it is my own mother’s favorite salad (hi, Mom!). I tell people often — on my blog, in my book — that I have a long and complicated relationship with salad. My mother insisted on it every single night (no matter what) growing up. That meant that ages 4 to 12 I came up with many, many creative ways to dispose of it that did not include consumption. Only once I actually started tasting the salad did I realize that I liked it and slowly started to build a relationship with greens. Now I would say that salads make up a serious percentage of what I eat, and I am constantly thinking about new ways to dress them up and make them new all over again.

Q: At the age of 60, I became allergic to shellfish and legumes including peanuts and soy. I love to cook Asian food, but most recipes call for soy sauce, which I cannot eat. Do you have a good substitute for soy sauce that I can use in my cooking?

There’s nothing wrong with giving your mom some fresh flowers for Mother’s Day, but what she won’t tell you is that she really just wants a bouquet of potato roses instead. If you want to truly make her day, do your mom a solid and make these beautiful, starchy treats this year.

Paper Towel Holder, Leather + Wood

• $79

One of the ugliest yet most-used items on my kitchen counter is my paper towel holder. (Yes, I attempt to go mostly green, but sometimes you just need a paper towel.) I’ve tried different ones, but because most of them are plastic, they inevitably break, which is why I’m now considering this sleek Danish version made from leather and wood.
