While some celebrities like to say that they are genetically blessed with a high metabolism, many other stars admit to working hard to stay in shape. Trainers, nutritionists, strict training schedules and diets—being a celebrity is a full time job when it comes to maintaining appearances. However, sometimes, movie and music stars are required to get into shape and slim down quickly for an upcoming audition, tour, or red carpet event. Often, this is when celebrities turn to high-intensity interval training.Image courtesy of hin255 / FreeDigitalPhotos.netWhat Is High-Intensity Interval Training?High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is considered a form of cardiovascular exercise, geared towards torching calories and fat. It can help tone, and may help musculature seem more defined by melting off the layer of subcutaneous fat; however, it is unlikely to build significant amounts of muscle.HIIT alternates short bursts of high intensity work with slightly longer rest periods. High intensity means anywhere from 80% to maximum capacity for 30 seconds.

Sometimes you have to go to one side of a gym, workout there, then go to the next. Fortunately enough, Tabata is a basic form of workout and can be easy to follow.

Maybe my most important post to date…Do you ever wonder why the majority of competitors/ fitness models gain so much weight in the few days after a show? Women often 20-25 pounds? Or maybe you dieted hard for a vacation/wedding etc and right after you immediately gained the weight back and it then took months to then lose it again??I am going to try to break this down as simple as possible as it pertains to EVERYONE. Your metabolic rate (metabolism) is he single and only factor that determines fat loss.

Intermittent fasting (IF) is one of the most discussed nutrition topics in fitness today. It’s not a fad, however. This is actually one of the most ancient forms of eating and survival. Think about how the generations of hunters and gatherers lived.

Story HighlightsHigh-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) involves high-intensity sprints followed by low-intensity exercise or rest. Studies have shown that HIIT burns more fat than traditional cardiovascular exercise where the same pace is maintained for an extended period of time. HIIT training has also been shown to burn more belly fat and subcutaneous fat than traditional workouts. If you have limited time to workout, doing HIIT can be a good way to ensure you still get the same benefits from exercises done in a short period of time.

| E-mail| PrintLast week Thursday I posted this blog about Intermittent Fasting. In it, I mentioned that there are lot’s of weight loss systems out there that work. More often than not, it’s about picking ONE system, following it, and sticking with it long enough to actually see some results.I also gave the link to Precision Nutrition’s founder, Dr John Berardi and his free e-book which gives a lot of information about IF, some different IF approaches, and Dr Berardi’s personal feedback on his successes and struggles with it.On Friday, I posted a follow up blog that gave some reasons why IF probably isn’t ideal for everyone and why.  I also briefly spoke about why I am trying it out myself. So then, which IF methods AM I trying and how is it going? It’s going slowly. Very slowly.
