Heres an important word for your body to learn: Tabata. Its the name of a form of interval training that relies on a simple pattern of 20 seconds of exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest. That doesnt sound so bad, but once you repeat the cycle eight times a standard round of Tabata it can be enough to make you see stars.

Intermittent fasting (also known as IF) involves eating very little or nothing for short periods throughout the week followed by a normal (healthy) diet the rest of the time. The theory, which has been tested in various scientific studies, is that fasting every now and then can help us lose weight, reduce the risk of certain diseases and even prolong our lifespan. While weight loss advice in recent years has been to eat little and often to ‘keep up the metabolism’, longer periods between eating may in fact be much more useful for weight loss and overall health. There are lots of different ways to go about intermittent fasting. Some diet programs allow you to eat a total of 4-500(for women)/5-600 (for men) calories during a fast day, some advocate a full 24 hours without a morsel of food passing your lips, and others allow a 6, 8 or 10 hour window in each 24 hours in which you can eat. Perhaps the most well-known is the 5:2 diet, first mentioned by Dr Michael Mosley in the 2012 documentary:‘Eat, Fast and Live Longer’.

We have already written about how to perform HIIT on the treadmill and how to perform HIIT on the rowing machine, and now is time to give some tips how to do the same using an elliptical trainer. As you probably know, HIIT or high intensity interval training is one of the best cardio exercises that one can do. This physical activity manages to boost the fats metabolism and to keep it raised for up to 48 hours after a workout. Therefore, it isn’t surprising why this is one of the most effective forms of cardio training for dropping excess pounds. However, to get the most of your HIIT session, you have to be familiar with the correct way of doing these exercises. As their name implies, high intensity interval trainings are intervals done at high intensity, meaning high-speed and very short breaks.Intervals can be done by anyone, regardless of their fitness level and endurance. The best about these exercises is that they you will only need 15-30 minutes per day for noticeable results

Calorie counting is a weight loss tool. And it is a very valuable tool. There are many people who have successfully lost weight by doing nothing other than learning how to count calories and adjusting their diets accordingly.  However, in my mind Calorie counting should be used as a tool, not a crutch. You should be learning from calorie counting. In fact, after 2-3 months of Calorie counting you really shouldn’t need to count Calories anymore. Why?Because if you’ve been counting accurately for a couple of months then you should now know what the ‘right’ amount of food feels like.  After 3 months, you should know what ‘right’ feels like while eating a wide variety of foods, on the days you workout vs.
