Last week I said “ask me anything” and you came back with nearly 300 comments! From funky-smelling Vibrams to Primal supplementation to training recovery, it was a mixed bag. Below you’ll find rapid fire responses to more than a dozen of them.
Check back later this week when I’ll be providing more solutions to your Primal predicaments.
Thanks for reading, everyone, and keep your questions coming!
Here’s my question: When you say not to count calories, is it because you believe that calories don’t matter? Or just that you won’t need to because a primal diet is so filling?

A little of both. See my Context of Calories post for the details. A Primal Blueprint eating style will definitely satisfy you on fewer calories once you have truly acclimated to it. Calories do matter if you are trying to lose weight, and you will want to create a bit of a deficit to accelerate […]

Longevity

Longevity – it means different things to different people, but to me, it means staying ‘good’ as long as possible.
I have no interest in immortality if it looks like this:

(No thank you).
For longevity to work for me, I want to be in my prime as long as possible.
I need to ‘work’
Run, move, play….oh and still look like I’m thirty for as long as possible.
To me, that’s longevity.
The problem with longevity is that it’s easy to jump the gun, on the lastest longevity trick or immortality cure.
Things that are shiny and new can easily trick you into thinking they have staying power.
I’ve fallen for this many times.
Take for instance, this post where I promoted the green pans… Back in September 2008, fresh out of their packaging the Green Pans worked beautifully.
Now, in June of 2010, I’m going to replace them as soon as I can.
No offense to the marketers of the […]

This is the type of meal you’ll want to share with those you love. Not only because it’s nourishing and delicious, but also because you don’t want to be the only one in the house who’s breathing out fiery chile and garlic. The aromatic chile sauce that gives this dish its fiery kick is served on the side and can be used in moderation, but we guarantee you’ll find yourself generously spooning it over your plate, unable to resist its bold, addictive flavor.
This isn’t to say that Sesame Chicken with Cauliflower Rice is a recipe only for the brave hearted. This traditional dish, typically called Hainanese Chicken and served with regular rice, is a simple and mild combination of flavors. It was Peter Yong’s favorite dish at a local restaurant and we’re glad he “Primalized” it and shared the results with all of us for the Primal Blueprint Reader-Created Cookbook […]

With oil spreading across the surface of the ocean, the world economy teetering on a precipice, and the Real Housewives of New Jersey premiering on Bravo, it’s not a stretch to believe the end of times are coming. While several companies will sell you kits for the occasion, usually they amount to a four thousand dollar credit card bill and a truckload of rice and oats. Rice and oats are no good for the low-carber, or for anyone wishing to avoid the all-to-common emaciated look of apocalypse survival. Thus, to wind down the week with something a little light-hearted (and what’s more light-hearted than the end of the world as we know it), the Worker Bees have come up with a Primal-approved list of supplies to ease the transition through the fall of modern civilization. Be it global warming, the rapture, or a zombie outbreak, get ready to stock up […]

The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training/circuit training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we'll use sprints as an example here.
Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds
Walk for 10 seconds
Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.
So what you have is a total of 4 minutes of workout time.
Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I'll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work.
Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. They did a study […]

So I believe that wheat allergies are nature's cruel joke. By no means am I an expert on this subject, but I have just done a bit of research. I began noticing that I would get a runny nose after certain meals containing wheat along with blood shot eyes. It isn't like I would eat a meal with wheat and feel terrible, but just bad enough to be slightly irritating. Another thing I noticed was feeling tired after a wheat heavy meal. I chalked this up to having too many carbs, but noticed a stronger reaction to meals where the carbs were made with wheat or flour.

[If you glance in the mirror and you look a little like this after chowing down some crackers or eating a snickerdoodle, then you might have a wheat allergy. If you don’t have a wheat allergy…you at least need to change something, […]

Training Naked

OK, now that I have your attention, I’d like to discuss the idea of you doing your weight-training (Law #4 Lift Heavy Things) with as few “joint support gizmos” (wrist wraps, tape, lifting belts, etc.) as possible. Maybe you already do, but if not…
By now you know how I feel about shoes in general – and workout shoes in particular. Along with grains and statins, they make my list of the top ten mistakes in the history of human health. High-tech, “comfortable” and higher-heeled shoes are probably the cause of more bad backs, bad knees, pulled muscles, hamstring issues, torn cartilage, tendonitis and myriad other lower- and mid-body afflictions than any other single factor. The reason is this: the more we’ve unburdened the important (critical) small muscles of our feet with “forefoot motion control”, “heel stabilizers”, and “rear-foot shock absorbers” – in other words, the more we’ve put our feet […]

This blog post is a two-parter. First, a progress update.
Last March I announced a number of exciting projects I had in the works. I’ve already checked a few things off the list: PrimalCon, held last April, was an amazing experience, and the response to The Primal Blueprint Cookbook and the Primal Blueprint Poster (released last month) was incredible. But I have a few more things up my sleeves for this summer, and I’m getting regular emails from readers wanting to know when they’re releasing.

If you aren’t familiar with the Primal Leap Kit, it’s a 30-Day program that will walk you through, step-by-step and day-by-day, the transition to a healthy, Primal lifestyle. The Kit will include a binder-bound Primal Leap Guidebook, a Primal Blueprint DVD (I walk participants through all 10 laws of the Primal Blueprint), an abridged audio book version of The Primal Blueprint (voiced by yours truly), The Primal […]

Today, let’s expand our horizons a little. You already know where the best fitness club on the Outer Banks is (hint: KnuckleUp). But there are other clubs in other cities that are worth looking into if you should find yourself travelling, yet still craving that sweet feeling of kicking ass. So let’s talk about The Lab MMA. Or better yet, let’s have owner and head instructor, Chad LeBrun, show you.

Professor Chad LeBrun has an amazing background in MMA. When he started fighting, there were no rules, and the round lasted 30 minutes. It was pretty far removed from what we see today. Professor LeBrun is also a black belt in Jiu Jitsu. He has a TON of awards and medals in some impressive competitions, like 2001 sport jiu-jitsu world champion, bronze medalist in the Pan Ams and he has also competed in Brazil in the World Jiu Jitsu competition.
Professor LeBrun’s gym […]
