Fat loss; If you’re having problems with it, this post might help…
I have a little project for you to help you hit the ground running for New Years.  I want you to start now…. As in right now — right this very minute.
And what I want you to do is a little thought experiment.
I want you to  STOP thinking about exercise as a way to burn calories and lose fat.
Stop it. In fact, I want you to pretend that it’s not even possible, that somehow workouts don’t burn any calories at all.
(I’m not saying that it’s actually impossible, I just want you to THINK that it is)
I also want you to stop thinking about ways to build muscle with your diet.
STOP!
Obviously you do need food to build muscle, but for this experiment let’s stop thinking of magic combinations or timings, or reasons to massively overeat…
Instead I want you to embrace […]

Matt Stone is really questioning some long held beliefs with this post. As a gummy bear fan, I’m hoping he is right. That being said, I will have to do some deeper research on my own. Looks like I’m going to be picking up his book Eat for Heat as well.

From the article…
This post is about exploring the potential mechanisms behind the increase in tooth strength I and others have experienced eating freely of sugar – in “natural” form, from whole foods like fruits, and even from totally refined white sugar (and evil high-fructose corn syrup, but I didn’t want to scare the health fanatical too much by using that in the title!).
How is such a thing possible? It makes no sense that a food with no nutrient value whatsoever, not a trace of minerals, could increase the density of bones and teeth. How could adding it […]

JC Deen wrote an awesome post today on hitting your fitness goals in 2013. He admits to hating goal setting and has an approach that he believes will work well for most people.

Quote from post:
For fitness, at the most, I want you to pick 2 things you want to change each month. Do not aim for more than this.
These 2 things you wish to change must be the most important to you, and they must be something you have to focus on each day even if that means just looking at your notes as a reminder of what you’re working on.

Here’s an article written by a guy who struggled to build forearm size until he added thick bar training to his routine. When wrist curls and reverse wrist curls aren’t doing the trick, this is an approach that can help.

[Most gyms don’t have thick Olympic bars, so Fat Gripz are a solution to that problem.]

I tried making cauliflower rice one time before and didn’t like the result. This is the first recipe I’ve seen for making Paleo cauliflower rice that actually looks like it will taste great.

2 cups cauliflower florets
1 tbsp coconut oil
1 Cup coconut milk (light or full fat)
½ tsp curry power (more if you like)
¼ Cup unsweetened coconut flakes
1 green onion

Mark Sisson is on a roll. He just put up another thought provoking post. He suggests that icing an injury may not be necessary for most common injuries.

Quote from article:
I’ve said this before, but inflammation is a necessary response to injury. It’s the inflammatory response that increases blood and lymphatic flow to and from the injured tissues, bringing healing nutrients and inflammatory mediators and removing damaged refuse. It’s the inflammatory response that makes injuries hurt, which prevents us from using and re-injuring the injured area.

Do we want to use ice in order to reduce the inflammation incurred after a soft tissue injury?

If you are looking for strong quad development without gaining too much mass in the glutes, then front squats are for you. This is actually a tough move to master, but luckily Eric Cressey has a fantastic tutorial with videos on his site. Here’s one showing how to setup the bar.

Some more tips on getting the bar in place:
When it comes time to unrack the bar, I cue the athlete to push the elbows up high and take air into the belly as they stand up the weight. This combination of “elbows up” (shoulder flexion) and “air in” prevents the bar from rolling — either because the arms are angled down or because the torso goes to mush as the rib cage comes down.
After the weight is walked out, the athlete should take a slightly outside hip width stance, with the toes angled slightly out. One of […]

It#8217;s the inflammatory response that makes injuries hurt, which prevents us from using and re-injuring the injured area. And yeah, the inflammatory response can get out of hand and do more damage than the initial insult, but it#8217;s ultimately how our bodies heal damaged tissues and recover from injuries. If we didn#8217;t have an inflammatory response, we#8217;d never get anywhere. This was the crux of a very interesting a title=”People, We’ve Got to Stop Icing.
