This is probably the best pancake article I’ve ever read online. I’m not saying I’ve read through a bunch of pancake posts to compare, but this site has some seriously creative recipes. For instance here’s a picture of a pancake using only eggs and bananas. No flour…seriously.

The names of the others?

A Really Good Pancake Recipe
Saturday Morning Pumpkin Pancakes
OMG Pancakes
Vanilla Protein Pancake

Weight Matters discussed a paper recently published that questions the impact of excess sodium on health. It could be one of those things that is correlated with poor health and not necessarily the cause of it.

Notes from article:
I once referred to salt as a “dietary red herring”, whereby I wondered whether or not in modern first world nations the risks extended to high dietary sodium consumption might be indirect whereby high dietary sodium consumption serves as a marker for the consumption of nutritionally awful, highly processed garbage which in turn confers the risk.
The authors postulated that dietary salt intake might be increasing physiologic thirst and that consequently the saltier the food, the more soda they drink.
Also possible is that kids who eat the saltiest foods are the ones with the worst overall dietary patterns.
Whatever the mechanism, when it comes to dietary sodium reduction, and things like regulations and task […]

Bloom to Fit just put up a video of the sweetest jump rope I’ve ever seen. It is called CrossRope and I’m guessing this company is going to do very well with this. Jumping rope is an amazing conditioning exercise. Coupled with a good diet, it is also an incredible way to burn body fat.

Article highlights:
Here’s the story… A brainchild of my now good friend Dave Hunt, the CrossRope is a unique and extremely versatile jump rope training system.
Anyway, I’m the kind of guy who loves technology and loves testing out new fitness tools and gadgets, so I was extremely fortunate to get in contact with Dave and get myself a complete CrossRope training set.
What is the CrossRope The CrossRope is an interchangeable weighted cable jump rope system.
The thinner handles are 7 ounces in weight and are designed to be used with the lighter ropes while the thicker handles are […]

I’m pretty darn biased about coffee, because I live in Seattle. It seems like we have a coffee shop every other block throughout the city. It is good for the soul…and more evidence shows it is good for the body as well. Gotta like that!

Notes from article:
A new study from the US finds people who drink more than 4 cups of caffeinated coffee a day have half the risk of dying from oral/pharyngeal (mouth and throat) cancer as people who drink it either occasionally or not at all.
However, the researchers say their findings need to be confirmed by more research, and for now should just be received as good news for coffee drinkers and not be used as a reason to recommend everyone should drink 4 cups of coffee a day.
Researchers Examine Link with Coffee Previous epidemiological studies have suggested coffee drinking is linked to a reduced risk for mouth […]

I prefer to eat my largest meal of the day for dinner. The reason this works is that I eat light in the morning and mid day. Israeli researchers have taken a closer look into why carbs at night may be a good strategy for obese people in particular.

Notes:
Israeli researchers found in a small study that saving most carbohydrates for dinnertime may help keep people from feeling hungry the following day, supporting weight-loss efforts for those who are obese.
Previous studies have found that the concentration of carbohydrates consumed at the end of the day modifies the typical day-night pattern of leptin, a hormone responsible for satiety, or feeling full.
Muslims are better able to adhere to their daytime fast by pushing most carbohydrates to dinner, the study authors said.
The study involved 63 male and female police officers aged 25 to 55, who had a body mass index — a measure of […]

Here’s an article which compares calorie burning rate of various cardio machines. In my opinion a lot depends upon intensity, but nonetheless this is an interesting comparison.

From the article:
Please keep in mind that any one of the machines listed below are capable of inducing a higher caloric expenditure than the other. This list is an estimation of which cardio machines have the potential of burning the most amount of calories when all other factors are equal:

Cross Country Skiing
Running on the treadmill
Rowing
Step-Mill (the one with real steps)
Elliptical with Arms
Jump Rope
Biking upright
Recumbent biking
Arm ergonometer

Mark Sisson put out a post a few days back about 10 foods you should buy as organic. Here’s a an article showing you some items that aren’t as important to buy in organic form. A good money saving tip, since organic is typically significantly more expensive.

A couple weeks ago, I gave you a list of the top 10 foods you should strive to buy organic.
However, even if the following conventional foods are relatively safe for your health, some would argue that you should still buy organic in order to support the workers and protect the environments exposed to agricultural chemicals.
That’s totally valid, and it’s part of the reason why I try to buy organic, but it’s not what I’m discussing here.
I hope some of you are pleasantly surprised and feel a little more empowered to make educated decisions on whether to buy organic or not.
