In part 1 I introduced the idea that leptin resistance is a key reason why people seem to have a problem with their metabolism. Increasing leptin is easy and can be accomplished in the short term with things like cheat days. Unfortunately it takes quite a bit longer to fix the problem of leptin resistance.
[I’m convinced that most overweight people are just a few consistent habits away from being slim.]
Stuck at Current Weight On a Low Calorie Diet?

Being unable to lose weight while eating 1,200-1,800 calories per day is a rough spot to be in. Where do you go from there, especially if you are already exercising? This is a common problem for people who go into a diet and exercise program when they are leptin resistant, insulin resistant, and have a chronically slow metabolism.
Life Isn’t as Colorful With a Slow Metabolism
Here’s are some of the potential issues.

I think most of us begin the year wanting to be healthier, and fitness stands as an essential element of that endeavor. Logical. Reasonable. Commendable. Yet, the common interpretation of what it will take to get there suddenly veers off in a white knuckle, nonsensical detour. Yes, let’s hear it for the a title=”Chronic Cardio” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/chronic-cardio/”chronic cardio/a model. As a a title=”Dear Mark: Body Composition Through the Years” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/body-composition-how-diet-and-exercise-affect-muscle-mass-and-body-fat/#axzz249ghWQp0″former cardio king/a, I rack my brain questioning why so many people still subscribe to the “exhaustion or bust” mentality. (It’s unfortunately one of the reasons many said memberships will go unused by the middle of next month and the aforementioned equipment will begin gathering dust in a corner.) As with so many aspects of healthy living, the conventional fitness […]

We have all known someone with the ability to eat large amounts of calories, not even workout, and still look lean and defined year round. By chance, these people have a revved up metabolism. What often happens to these people is they are lean when they are young, then at some point their metabolism slows down and they put on weight. In fact, this was more often than not the case a couple generations ago.

[This picture was taken in the late 1940’s at Playland in Rye Beach, New York. Up until the late 1980’s, the majority of teens were lean without even trying.]
All Young Adults Were Lean in My Dad’s Generation

My dad was born in 1940 and grew up in the 40′s and 50′s. He stayed lean while eating a boat-load of food in in his teens and 20′s. I used to think current childhood obesity rates are because of […]

No, not vitamins. While I obviously believe a title=”Grok Didn’t Take Supplements So Why Should I?” href=”http://www.marksdailyapple.com/definitive-guide-to-primal-supplementation/”supplements of the pill, tablet and powder form variety can play a role in a healthy, modern Primal lifestyle/a, that#8217;s not what I have in mind today. Instead, I#8217;d like to take a look at supplemental emfoods/em #8211; multivitamins provided in whole food form by mother nature (often aided and abetted by cooks, cheesemakers, farmers, ranchers, shepherds, and the like). In my estimation, there are a few absolutely essential supplemental foods that we should be eating./p
pMost of you are probably eating a few of these foods regularly, and some may be eating most of them, but I#8217;d wager that none of you are eating all of them on a regular basis. Check the list, see what you#8217;re missing, […]

Months went by; months of what seemed like me just talking to myself. In due time, people started dropping by to enjoy and comment, and soon the discussion became lively. Buoyed by community support, I wrote and wrote. Every day I wrote, slogging toward the ambitious goal of helping 10 million people cast aside flawed conventional wisdom and take control of their health and wellbeing./p
pSince launch day in 2006, so much has changed. At the time, #8220;Primal#8221; or #8220;paleo#8221; had few followers and fewer evangelists. Now, everyone and their granny has a paleo blog or podcast, and the ancestral movement has made significant inroads in the shaping of mainstream media and popular thinking about health and wellness. And I couldn#8217;t be more delighted./p
