Hey everybody, we have another guest post for you all today from TK Cook over at Fitz101. It is all about HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training (an exercise concept much like our own Cardio Conditioning). I’m sure that you’re going to love his post!Judging solely by the name of the concept, it would be pretty easy to guess that High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an exercise program that will push you to your limits. For people who have no idea whatsoever about this particular type of training, it’s the only thing they know for sure about HIIT

by Chelsea Terris (I’m pretty sure this is the first guest blog post on EatBlogEat… Bold was added by me on the parts I really liked / found interesting)Losing weight and getting fit is all about the body, right?  Wrong. Undertaking any weight loss program, be it diet, exercise, or weight loss surgery, requires a complete shift in mental perception to establish true change.Ever lost weight but still functioned like an overweight person, feeling critical of your image in the mirror or engaging in habitual lack of confidence? The great Greek essayist Plutarch stated that “What we achieve inwardly will change outer reality.” If this is true, then making changes to our bodies begins and ends in the mind, where seeds of success must be planted to bear hardbody fruit.Sound like a pile of motivational munbo jumbo?

Q: I’m at the weight I want to be, and now I want to show off my muscles. What should I be eating?A: This is a great example of how achieving your “ideal” scale weight doesn’t necessarily equate to the look that you want. We often get very focused on having the scale display a particular number when we get on it but don’t realize that when we hit that number, our bodies may not look how we’d envisioned they would. In her most recent book, Drop Two Sizes, 2012 IDEA Personal Trainer of the Year Rachel Cosgrove notes that she consistently sees women drop two sizes with the scale only showing two to four pounds of weight loss. This is one of the reasons why it is very important to track your progress toward a weight loss/body composition goal via measures other than the scale such as pictures, girth measurements (waist, hips, etc), and body fat percentage.Back to your question specifically: If you are at the body weight that you want but want to show off your muscles more, then you will need to lose a little more body fat while then adding on muscle

Hi again, everyone! If you know me, you know I love interval training. And these days we’re doing short and sweet ones that are really fun. And effective! A lot of people are calling it Tabata training, which is interval training requiring you to kick butt for 20 seconds, rest for 10, as you cycle through a series of exercises. Some workouts are done in 8 minutes or less

The Tabata drills we’ve been adding into classes and private sessions lately elicit a lot of “OMGs” and “holy cows!” (or words to that effect). So I said I’d write up a little Tabata 101 low down to give everyone some background. Here we go

One of the most common excuses people give for not exercising is that they don’t have time. And if you’re one of those folks who swears up and down that you don’t have an hour (or even 30 minutes) to spare for a workout, then HIIT is the perfect solution. What is HIIT?HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, and it involves alternating between periods of intense exercise and brief recovery. The idea behind HIIT training is that you don’t allow your body to adjust to exercising at just one level of intensity, which enables you to essentially turn into a fat-burning machine. So what does an actual HIIT workout look like?
