Shopping with small children can be a whole different proposition than shopping all by yourself. But it can be fun and satisfying and a good experience for kiddos, as Christine explained in her tips for grocery shopping with kids. You chimed in with lots of other good tips; here are three I wanted to also point out.

Let’s face it — appliances can be boring. Yes, white ones are classic and stainless steel ones are sleek, but they don’t show a lot of personality. Luckily your appliances — especially your fridge — are prime candidates for a makeover.

Whether you want to camouflage an old fridge from a previous tenant or just spruce up your kitchen with a bold pattern, here are 10 show-stopping options.

Q: Every time I see a recipe for energy bars/balls, they always involve using dates. Coming from someone who isn’t a fan of dates, are there any substitutes for them in these types of recipes? Or are dates the end-all, be-all ingredient of energy bar recipes?

This beautiful kitchen in the Cotswolds near Stroud, England, has many things to recommend it. It’s part of a new home designed to be eco-friendly and nearly passive in its energy use, and that intelligence is worked into the kitchen too. Take this island, for instance — it was built with vegetables in mind.

Tomorrow is a food holiday I can really get behind. It’s National Doughnut Day!

Fun food fact: Traditionally celebrated on the first Friday in June, this food holiday was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor the women who served doughnuts to the soldiers during WWI.

For a long time I avoided radishes, thinking they were only meant to be eaten raw. I was a little put off by their sharp heat, too. But then, one spring a few years ago, inspired by a bunch of lavender and scarlet Easter egg radishes, I rebelled a bit. Why not cook radishes? In fact, why not braise them?

This tangy, bacon-laced recipe was the result, and when it comes to cooking radishes, I’ve never looked back.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on when it comes to summertime and fruit, it’s that summer is not complete without watermelon. Lots and lots of watermelon. What’s not to love about a snack that’s sweet, refreshing, and healthy?

But watermelon isn’t just about the sweet, pink flesh. There’s one part of this fruit you’re probably ignoring (but shouldn’t be): the rind! This is far more than a scrap to be thrown in the trash; it’s more versatile than you think and still has a lot of life left in it.

Item: Breville The Fast Slow Cooker
Price: $179.99
Overall Impression: If you’re intimidated by using an electric pressure cooker, this is the one for you. The manual and settings make it super easy to understand what you’re doing. I also love how the steam release button is away from the valve – it makes it much more safe for a first-time user.

Breville is known for making higher-end appliances, and that includes The Fast Slow Cooker. This machine is a slow cooker and pressure cooker, and as a result, is more expensive than other cookers that just have the pressure cooker function. Is it worth the extra cash? I ran it through three tests to find out.

While it is so easy to make or find an excuse to not work out, it can sometimes be not so easy to find reasons to workout. If you’re a busy parent, this challenge can be even harder.
