I made my own school lunches as far back as I can remember. Our son — a six-year-old with mild cerebral palsy who can’t stand at the kitchen counter without help yet — has neither the interest in food nor the physical ability to do much of the chopping, spreading, and packaging a school lunch entails.
But the more I chat with other parents, the more I realize it’s a plight that extends far beyond palsy; fridge foraging is a skill that all kids have to learn. So as Graham starts first grade, we are starting the slow, necessary transition toward lunch-making independence.

A new kitchen is wildly exciting. It’s a blank canvas, a brand-new space to make all your own — a fresh start, and a new beginning. A pantry is just waiting to get stocked with all your favorite foods and mealtime essentials. But that first grocery trip can also prove totally overwhelming, especially if you’re moving into your own place for the first time or making a long-distance move, and stocking your fridge and pantry totally from scratch.
We’re here to help, with a grocery list to get you set up and fully stocked for life in your new kitchen, whether it’s your first apartment in college or a new flat in a new town.

In case you haven’t noticed, the yogurt section of the grocery store has expanded big time. Take your pick between full-fat, low-fat, nonfat, Greek-style, Icelandic, Australian-style. And then, of course, it’s time to pick your flavor. You’ve got decisions to make when it comes to buying yogurt.
The flavor decision for us was easy: strawberry is a classic — always reliable and delicious, and there’s something about it that reminds us of our childhoods. Our office tried six national brands of strawberry yogurt and ranked them from our least favorite to the very best. Want to see our top pick?

When we first saw this kitchen, we immediately wanted to pack our bags and head to New Orleans for a visit. The pied-à-terre apartment in the French Quarter looks like the perfect respite from a busy life.
Of course, as we took a closer look, we found several tips and ideas we can steal for our own kitchens.
