I have a weakness for ice cream that reaches its peak in the summertime, but the ice cream itself is only the half of it: I am a sucker for great toppings. Even as an adult, I insist on chocolate sprinkles when I visit my local ice cream shop because I am convinced they make the ice cream better.

But what if you have outgrown sprinkles, and are hungry for something new and a little crazy to dress your ice cream sundae? Your humble grocery store is a treasure trove of delightful toppings, and I am not talking about hot fudge sauce and maraschino cherries.

New research supports anecdotal evidence that hip thrusts build speed and power.

Squats and hip thrusts have been used by strength and conditioning coaches for years to develop explosive power. There’s no secret that this training approach works to build strong athletes, but until now, there has been a dearth of research in this area of science.

 

The Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research recently published the first longitudinal study to compare performance improvements in hip thrusts versus squats.

I wasn’t always a baby-wearer. With my daughter, my first baby, I had the luxury of time — I could hold and soothe her as much as she needed, and it didn’t matter much if my husband and I ate dinner at midnight after she was asleep.
