Years ago, Vladimir Janda presented the distinction between the “tonic” muscles and the “phasic” muscles. The tonic muscles become tighter with age (pecs, biceps, hip flexors) and the “phasic” muscles become weaker with age (deltoids, triceps, abs, glutes).

There are a lot of strange food-eating competitions out there, but I never saw this one coming. At this year’s Taste of Buffalo event, there will be the first-ever kale-eating competition, or, as it’s being called, the “Kale Cup.” Participants will have eight minutes to consume as much kale as possible. The grand-prize winner will take home a cool $2000.
Just imagine all of that roughage.

Like anyone who’s been lucky enough to travel to Bali, I wish I could have brought it home in my suitcase. There’s a reason that the island province of Indonesia has a reputation for attracting “seeker” types like me — the nomads, the yoginis, the meditators.
