Olive tapenade just has a way of instantly whisking you away to the Mediterranean. The salty, briny topping is usually spread on bread, but it also lends its salty, savory glory to freshly cooked corn on the cob.

Summer is hands-down the best time of year for vegetables. Yes, root vegetables and winter squash are wonderful, but nothing beats a tomato from the farmers market, an ear of corn from a roadside stand, or a pepper from your garden.

Even better, many of these summer veggies don’t take a lot of time to prep, so you can spend less time in the kitchen and more time on the patio, stoop, or fire escape enjoying these dishes for dinner.

When I’m in charge of bringing lunch to a picnic or tackling lunch duty for the whole family, my game plan is tried, true, and most importantly, simple: one sandwich that’s big enough to feed everyone. And right now, in the spirit of celebrating ripe summer produce, this version gets its inspiration from one of my favorite fresh salads.

Strawberries are in season, which means you’ve probably got a couple pints in your kitchen right now. Whether you’re eating them as is or using them in a recipe, you always need to remove the green tops from strawberries first. The advantages of canned wines are many. Let us to count the ways. For starters, they’re significantly more cooler-friendly than bottles, which can be awkward to pack, and boxes, which can get soggy in all that ice. They’re also easier to keep chilled and their smaller size makes them ideal for individuals. No more arguing over red, white, or pink — you can each have your own! They’re cute, too, and all the cool kids are drinking them (in case that matters).

But most importantly, they’re just as tasty as the bottled stuff. Really! “All the cans have special liners to preserve the flavor,” explains Trisha Mack, “Chief Cocktail Officer” at the Boston-based booze delivery service, Drizly.com. That means you won’t get that metallic taste you might associate with canned beverages. Plus, she says, more and more wineries are canning their wine. Translation: more options and better quality for you.

If you think canned wine isn’t any good, you just haven’t tried the right ones. Here are a few to crack open this summer.

Summer is the time of the year to reap the benefits of your hard training and clean eating throughout the spring. Hopefully most of you know what I mean by that, and you are eager to take your new winter and spring gains out for a test drive this summer season. If not, don’t worry. You may still have some time, but you need to get started with these three workouts.

You’ve been swinging the same kettlebell for a while now. You know a heavier bell would increase the training effect, but the next bell seems like a huge increase in weight from your old favorite. Are you moving up too fast?
