Of all the alcoholic beverage options out there, beer is probably the best at quelling the heat and quenching chile-induced thirst. For starters, beer tends to be fairly low alcohol — five to seven percent ABV compared to 10 to 15 percent for wine and 40 percent for spirits. Carbonation also helps remove the fiery heat of capsaicin from the palate.
But not all beers are created equal — just like not all spicy foods are created equal. The key to finding the best suds for the dish at hand is to pair like with like. When the weight and mouthfeel of a beer matches the dish it’s served alongside, something fantastic happens: complimentary flavors in both the food and beer are accented, making the combination far better than the sum of its parts.

This summer we’ve seen a lot of trendy wedding desserts picking up steam. A couple favorites have been these cakes that look like rocks, and this doughnut wall. But this new wedding cake that just popped up on Instagram might be the most interesting of them all.
Can you guess what this cake is made out of?

A front porch is a magical place. It’s public and private. It allows you to be part of the larger world around you while having time to yourself and your family. You can wave hello to your neighbors without having to stop what you are doing or make small talk, or if you’re feeling social you can invite them to come join you.
It’s the best, and it makes everything and every time (or at least these seven times) better. So go ahead — take a step out your front door and take a seat.

It doesn’t matter if it’s a grand wrap-around veranda or a tiny Juliet balcony looking out over the street — a front porch is a perfect place for conversations big and small. And those chats — whether intimate exchanges or idle gossip; talking truth or telling tall tales — with old friends, neighbors, lovers, soon-to-be-ex-lovers, what have you, are almost always improved by a cold drink.
Here are five types of conversations to have on the porch, plus their refreshing beverage counterparts.

This past June, Costco transitioned from using American Express to exclusively Visa, and it hasn’t been a smooth ride. The transition required 11 million of Costco’s 81 million members to switch from the TrueEarnings American Express Costco card to the Costco Anywhere Visa. Many issues arose, including people not receiving their new card and spending hours on the phone trying to reach customer support.

I’m a wannabe kitchen minimalist — any tool in my kitchen must do double duty. One regular funnel has gotten me through the last 10 years, but there are at least two canning funnels in my house right now. While they were originally purchased specifically for canning, my canning funnels have become indispensable everyday tools.

Ah, the gin and tonic. Unless you’re clean and sober, you cannot say you’ve experienced summer until you’ve come home from a long, hard day at work on a sweltering summer evening and promptly made yourself a G&T to enjoy on the back porch or next to the air conditioner turned full blast. The bitter tonic, the herbal gin, the refreshing lime. Perfect!
