Arguably the trickiest part of making big-batch breakfasts of pancakes and waffles is delivering everything to the table at the same time, still warm and just as good as it is right off the griddle. But it’s totally possible, and actually pretty easy to pull off.

It’s that glorious time of year you’ve been waiting for, when crates of snack-friendly clementines are stacked up tall all around the produce section. Instead of just picking up the crate at the top of the pile, here are seven things to check for to ensure you bring home the best box of clementines.

Did you watch the highly anticipated Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life last week? I, for one, am thrilled with the revival; it manages to hold on to the nostalgia of the show while staying current (the sign in Luke’s Diner now says “No Man Buns”).

And while the mini-series does end with one big cliffhanger, I’m not here to talk about that. No, I’ve got a whole other list of (food-related) questions that need answers ASAP.

Imagine: You’ve been out exploring some amazing new city all day. And, if you’re like us, you’ve been using your iPhone to guide you, upload your pics, and help translate the tough words. What did people do before smart phones, anyway?

Now it’s dinnertime and you want to capture that just-caught fish you’re about to eat for all your Instagram followers back home. There’s just one problem: Your phone is dead. And you didn’t bring your power booster with you because you wanted to have as much room as possible in your bag for edible treats and souvenirs for your kitchen (naturally).

If you’re thinking about throwing a holiday party, but don’t want to invest in cheesy, Christmas-y decor, greens are the answer. Greens are a chic and simple go-to for all kinds of occasions. Jars of filler greens from the florist make a lush statement, as do tropical ferns. But if I’m in the mood for something even easier, a garland is a tabletop trick I revisit time and time again.

These buttery, nutty one-bite cookies go by many names. Maybe you know them as Russian Tea Cakes, Italian Wedding Cookies, or Snowball Cookies. Whatever you might call them, these Spiced Mexican Wedding cookies (their most popular name) are the perfect antidote — or addition — to the sugar-studded cookie plate. With just enough heat, salt, and nutty flavor, these cookies satisfy sweetly without being cloying. And they are just as easy to make as they are to eat.

Is there anything T.J. Maxx doesn’t have? If there is, it’s a short list. You can head there to get an outfit for an upcoming holiday party, presents for loved ones, and all sorts of snacks and ingredients for the season — all during one trip.

While some people head there for deals on sweaters and shoes, we especially love the gourmet food section, which is full of good finds — and totally surprising ones, if you don’t know what’s in store at this discount retailer.

We hit up our local T.J. Maxx a few weeks ago to see what was on offer in the food department. Of course, the inventory is always changing and varies by store, but you’ll probably find some similarly surprising items. These were just so unexpected, we had to share.

Advent calendars might just be the only way kids make it through the agonizing wait for Christmas. After all, a little morning chocolate or toy goes a long way towards keeping kids happy. In the same vein, a little mid-week boozy brunch or dinner keeps most adults pretty happy, no matter how many times well-meaning relatives ask, “What do you mean you don’t have a boyfriend or girlfriend?”

Beer advent calendars are downright necessary during the holiday season.
