Vacation Rental: Modern Farmhouse in the Woods in Saugerties, New York
Sleeps: Up to 6 guests
Price: Starting at $299 per night
Why We Wanna Cook Here: Can you say dinner party?
When we travel we believe in staying in real homes as much as we can; to really taste a place means cooking local food in a local’s kitchen. And if you’re traveling to the Catskills (check out our Bite-Sized Guide to the Catskills) here’s a vacation rental to love.
This updated farmhouse has a stainless-steel six-burner gas stove, a porcelain apron-front sink, and plenty of natural light. As if that’s not enough, it also has brand-new cookware (think: All-Clad pots and pans). And the perfectly rustic dining table seats 10 people comfortably. During warmer months, dinner parties can be indoor-outdoor hybrids, as the house opens up to a big deck, a three-acre yard, and a new gas grill.

I give out no less than 40 gift’s of cookies every holiday season. Every person on my husband’s side of the family gets one. My coworkers each get one. The super in my apartment building gets one. The list goes on.
I know the holiday tin is the traditional vessel for gifting cookies, but with more than 10 years of cookie-gifting experience, I’ve decided there’s something a million times better: small cardboard treat boxes.
Hear me out. I have five good reasons why cardboard boxes are better than tins when it comes to handing out holiday cookies.

Winter survival comes in the form of comfort food — the richer and heartier the meal, the easier it is to handle the cold. But we still need salad. In fact, with all those hefty stews and baked pastas, salads are imperative to keep things in balance. Here are 15 of our favorite winter salads that are fit for the season, from crunchy root vegetable slaws to simple greens that are made extra special with warm dressing.

What’s the best way to get through the holiday season? By being merrily caffeinated, of course! Starbucks holiday lattes are the obvious place to start. And then you’ll need the booze!
Keep reading to learn what to pair together. Then, get to your local coffee chain — because you don’t want to have to wait a whole year before these jolly drinks come back around.

This year I found myself having friends and family over more than ever before. I moved back to my hometown this year and basically all I wanted to do was feed all the people I love. At first there we’re lots of dinners — crappy or otherwise — but as of late nothing beats wine and snack boards.
I make these snack boards with a mishmash of items, sticking to principles we mention here (think: four or five items, mostly assembled, only cook one thing) and turning to one particular appetizer again and again to make a spread of knicks and knacks (as my dad always calls them) a meal.
Introducing roasted veggie ricotta toast — the easiest appetizer to make you look like you did the most.
