There was a ton of great stuff at last weekend’s International Home + Housewares Show. As usual, a few trends popped up that we just couldn’t ignore. Mostly, it seems like everyone and their mother (especially the mothers, we’re guessing!) want us all to be a little healthier.

Here are the three healthy cooking trends that almost every company seemed to be talking about.

When the great playwright William Shakespeare wrote, “Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them,” he definitely was not referring to Kit Kats.

And yet, Kit Kats have definitely had greatness thrust upon them. For some reason or other, these chocolate-covered wafers have become the cult candy of choice across the globe. There is a giant-sized version in the U.S. There are luxury designer editions in U.K. popups. And now there is a hot cross bun-flavored version in Australia.

When I was younger, my mom made dinner almost every night of the week. She had a stable of favorites she’d cycle through and everyone ate dinner without too much fuss. But Fridays were always the night we looked forward to because Friday was “yoyo” night. On Friday, you’re on your own. Eat leftovers, use your collective bargaining rights as children — I am one of three — to convince dad to order pizza (the usual outcome), or make a grilled cheese sandwich. The theme of self-sufficiency at dinner was on the menu in my family, and it shows you just how abstract the concept of a themed dinner night can be.

Using a template for your weeknight dinners should help you make a plan and get you fed. So in that spirit, here’s a list of theme night dinners to consider for your meal planning, from the extremely practical pasta night to the fantastical movie-inspired meals. The list is by no means exhaustive — just a few good ideas to get you thinking. Let us know what we missed in the comments!

I tend to buy as many bunches of asparagus as I can possibly carry home with me when they first hit my local farmers market — and then come back the next day for some more. I can hardly get enough of it when it’s at its peak season in the spring, so it’s important that the bunches I bring back to my kitchen are the best. Here’s what I look for when buying asparagus.

Stainless steel appliances have become so mainstream, they’re basically expected in any updated kitchen. But we can’t help but wonder if we’ll ever look back at the shiny metallic appliances and ask our past selves what we were thinking. Will the look ever become dated? Will anything ever be more popular than stainless steel?

Ready to say goodbye to dry pork tenderloin once and for all? I thought so — me too! The simplest way to do it is to ditch the marinade in favor of brining. Consider it your insurance policy for a super-juicy, flavorful pork tenderloin every single time.

Next time you’re at the grocery store, buy that big bag of carrots. I am always surprised by how cheap a bag is — it will barely set you back a few dollars — and that’s still the case even if you’re buying organic! So, naturally, we consider carrots to be a good grocery investment all around. In fact, there aren’t many other vegetables that can be equally tasty roasted alongside a whole chicken as they can be baked into a cake that’s piled with cream cheese frosting.

You’ll have no trouble cooking your way through the bag (and getting a serious dose of vitamin A) — especially if you lean on these 20 recipes for inspiration.

Some kitchens have very limited drawer space. If you’re lucky, you have two drawers: one for your flatware and one for your zip-top baggies, aluminum foil, and the like. Then where do all your gadgets go? You can only have so many crocks on your countertop. The best solution is to hang everything on a pegboard and get it up and out of the way, while still keeping it all 100 percent accessible.
