The whole concept of blind baking a pie crust can sound rather intimidating to the uninitiated — particularly if you’re already feeling intimidating by the idea of baking a whole pie to begin with. If this sounds like you, help is here! Blind baking is really nothing more than letting the pie crust bake for a little while on its own before you add the filling. It’s an easy-peasy process made a even easier once you know a few key steps.

If you’re celebrating Friendsgiving this weekend and were tasked with bringing a side dish, I’ve got just the thing for you: hot honey sweet potatoes. Roasted with butter and brown sugar and then drizzled with a spicy jalapeño-infused honey, these are not your Aunt Rita’s sweet potatoes — and that’s exactly the point.

Wherever in the world you’re traveling, cafés — old, majestic ones that illuminate nostalgic interiors and minimalist Fair Trade shrines where baristas explain the differences between their Kenyan and Rwandan roasts — are the backbone of a great trip. Prime people-watching is always a draw, but so is the chance to delve deeper into a country’s culture by savoring the coffee specialties (and irresistible desserts) beloved by locals.

Here’s what a coffee break looks like in 17 different countries around the world.

Worksgiving is a great way to hang out with your colleagues and share some gossip, but like any office gathering, you can seriously piss off your building’s custodians if you’re not courteous. While some extra mess is inevitable, there are a few steps you can take during cleanup that will make it easier on them.

Here’s how.

My 4 years old son was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when he was 1 year old. He was exclusively breastfed until that age so no exposure to gluten except from my breastmilk probably ( I have leaky gut and I was consuming sourdough bread from ancient wheat while breastfeeding). As soon as he was diagnosed and he started eating food, I put him on a gluten free diet and although he was dependent on insulin from then on (unlike the Danish children mentioned on the research above), his HbA1C levels are good since then. We once tried giving him sourdough bread from ancient wheat but still his blood sugar skyrocketed from that and could not be lowered for a long time after eating. I think this is a clear sign that even a small amount of gluten causes lots of inflammation in his body. From my experience gluten is something to avoid for life for type 1 diabetics. Thank you for another great article Chris Kresser!

Every Thanksgiving with my family is like a reunion. We gather from places all over the East Coast to chow down on a plate of collard greens, turnips, and of course, turkey (don’t forget the gravy). Traditionally, my Godfather and his brother have always cooked and served Thanksgiving dinner to the family. And while I love and appreciate the hard work they always put into preparing a huge meal for over 20 people, I used to cringe at how my Godfather and cousin prepped my plate because my food would always touch.

With the holidays pretty much here, you’ll need a good mixer on hand for all the Christmas cookie dough you’re about to mix or the Thanksgiving potatoes you need to mash. Luckily for you — and the people who get to eat your food — this Cuisinart hand mixer is on sale for $60 (the manufacturer’s website sells it for $80!)

Q: A friend just invited me to his home for Thanksgiving dinner — and asked me to pay $50 upfront. I understand that hosting can be expensive, and I wouldn’t mind being asked to bring a dish, but asking guests for cash seems incredibly rude. Am I crazy to be a bit miffed? Has anyone else experienced this? If so, how do you handle it?
