As you may already know, I love perusing Airbnb as much for the decorating and organizing ideas as I do to actually book a trip! I’m consistently impressed at how the rental property owners have all the necessary items to make sure you’re comfortable and have everything you need — without jamming the drawers in a way that makes you feel just a little bit weird about being in someone else’s home.

So I reached out to the Airbnb team to get a list of the most wish-listed rentals in the whole world — and then I poked around to steal the smart organizing ideas from these amazing spots.

Here’s what I learned.

Mushrooms don’t exactly have a reputation for stealing the spotlight come dinnertime. They’re more of a stick-to-the-sidelines kind of side dish. But not if you give them the A-list treatment. Enter: these balsamic garlic grilled mushroom skewers from Closet Cooking, which most definitely have star potential.

I’m nutty about making my own moisturizers, healing salves and anti-aging face oils. One ingredient I love to incorporate into my concoctions is apricot kernel oil. It’s light, easily absorbed and has a faint fruity fragrance. It feels great on my skin and is packed with nourishing fats and vitamins.   Along with olive oil, coconut […]

Forget your astrological sign and whether you’re a Carrie or a Miranda, because these days it’s all about what LaCroix flavor you are. Are you a Pamplemousse or a Peach-Pear? People love LaCroix so much that some even want to dress up as their favorite flavor at the beach all summer in LaCroix swimwear.

I have a can of Grapefruit LaCroix in my hand right now, and I’m eyeing the matching swimsuit, so I have my answer – and it looks like I’m in good company, because Grapefruit is apparently the most popular LaCroix flavor by a large margin. (It also makes the cutest swimsuit.)

Google announced this week that in a move towards greater inclusivity, it would be changing its salad emoji to remove the slice of hard-boiled egg, thus making the salad vegan-friendly. It’s part of an update that includes 157 new emojis and updates to some of the existing ones. Now the bacon is crispier, the goat looks less angry, and the salad is vegan.

You know the feeling: You’ve ached for vacation for weeks, imagining cocktails on the deck of that great beach rental you scored by being on the ball eight months ago. You and some friends all got the time off and arranged to meet for, say, a week of summery bliss.

But when the big break comes, you find yourself exhausted — because it turns out cooking for eight on the coast is the same amount of work as cooking for eight in your own house. The view might be great, but effort is effort. You’ve fallen into the classic vacation trap (which The Onion most famously chronicled in this piece), where your escape just means doing dishes with a different view.

A quick design lesson: One of the most iconic French presses comes from Bodum, a Danish company that’s been making them since the 1970s. The gadget is more than just a pretty face: It’s also one of our favorite French presses on the market. And it’s currently on sale — bundled with a coffee grinder and a kettle — for more than 30 percent off.

The spillage is real. Whether you’re measuring a small amount for a recipe, or shaking a mound into your sink drain, baking soda always leaves a powdery mess behind. You’d think someone would have designed a better spout for baking soda boxes by now, but at such a low price point (less than a buck a box) we can’t really expect many bells and whistles. It’s what’s inside that matters anyway — right?
