The Instant Pot family just got a whole lot bigger, thanks to Amazon Prime Day last week. The trendiest kitchen gadget on the planet sold out in just 19 hours, and now all those new owners finally have their Instant Pots. Hooray! Welcome to the family — let’s all shred a chicken together!

Don’t get us wrong — Amazon is definitely a lifesaver on most occasions. (How else can you get a shipment of 12 cases of GoMacro bars delivered to your door in less than 24 hours?) But it’s not always your best bet for various reasons. We polled Kitchn staffers to find out what not to buy on Amazon and why!

Five years ago Elsa belted out Let It Go, and it seems like the ice queen’s power ballad has been stuck in my head head ever since. (Parents, you know what I’m talking about.)

Having Idina Menzel’s voice stuck in my head is fine, though, because I honestly love Elsa. I like that the first thing she does when she’s finally off on her own is change into a sparkly dress with a 20-foot cape (girl, same). And I really like that she has wild ice powers that make her borderline omnipotent.

And you just know Elsa’s ice powers would come in handy in the frozen food section. Besides making sure that things actually stay frozen in the car on a hot summer day when you need to make an extra stop after the grocery, I bet she’d have pretty good taste in what she chooses to buy. Being in the frozen food section is probably where she’s most comfortable and confident, after all.

Here’s what I think the ice queen would buy.

Frozen meals have come a long way since the microwave dinners of the ’50s. And most of it has to do with two little words: Trader Joe’s. While they’re not the only players in the game of frozen meals, they certainly seem to have captured our readers’ hearts (and tummies).

We asked you guys to tell us about your favorite frozen meals. Your answers included a lot of Trader Joe’s — and a few other name brands, too.

We recently ran a story about the best way to get stickers off new dishes. One surefire way to do it is with Goo Gone, a product I’ve used myself on many a photo shoot to get dishes and decorative items (like lamps and tchotkes) photo-ready when they had sales tags on them. But when we read through your comments, there was a common complaint: Lots of people hate the smell, and sometimes it leaves a petroleum-y residue on surfaces. A few of you worried about using a product that smelled so strongly on surfaces you might use for cooking and dining.

We get it! So we hunted around for an alternative.

Quick skillet dinners are a smart choice all year long, but I find they’re especially welcome on these warm summer days when the goal is to keep the kitchen cool. This one is full of chewy al dente orzo, sweet and juicy tomatoes, spicy Spanish chorizo, and, of course, nutty Parmesan or Pecorino cheese.

The orzo cooks directly in the skillet and releases some of its starch as it simmers, making this dish creamy and risotto-like — without the time commitment. It’s simple and comforting, yet not at all heavy.

Kitchn’s Delicious Links column highlights recipes we’re excited about from the bloggers we love. Follow along every weekday as we post our favorites.

It was recently brought to my attention that my roommate has been sitting on the fact that we are in possession of a slow cooker. Unbeknownst to me, the mini two-quart device has been gathering dust somewhere in the closet in our apartment, which means it might as well be in Narnia.

All the while I have been pinning slow cooker recipes to my recipe inspiration board, waiting for the day that I finally have enough counter space to call one my own. The wait is over, folks, and although this little slow cooker won’t pull as much weight as the six-quart size can, we are going to put it to work.

Everyone at Kitchn has their favorite slow cooker recipe (that’s a whole different post, though!). So of course that means we each have a favorite slow cooker. While all slow cookers essentially do the same thing, some models have inserts that you can take off and use on the stovetop, some are bigger than others, some are programmable, and some have screens that light up, etc. You know these things. What you might not know, though, is which slow cooker you should get.

That’s why we asked some of our staffers (all slow cooker fans!) to tell us what slow cookers they swear by. If you happen to be in the market for a new one (or, hey, your first one!), take a look.

I once looked after an adorable American Bull Terrier named Zach. He was a rescue dog who had been maltreated in the past, but he was adopted by a wonderful new owner who gave him a good home and his personality blossomed. Although he looked intimidating, he was really a sweetheart. Zach took me into […]

When it comes to cardiovascular health, weight loss, or overall health improvements, cardio seems to always get the spotlight. I get it, it is good for you and, for the most part, everyone can do it in some form or another; however, I also believe strength training is significantly undervalued in terms of health and wellness. Allow me to elaborate.
