I grew up in peak Wonder Bread glory — years before moms were talking about added sugar — when we still got peanut butter and jelly on white bread and CapriSuns in our lunch bag. Since then, I’ve gone through all sorts of sliced sandwich bread phases — including stints buying only locally produced whole-grain breads and high-processed white wheat breads. Two years ago, though, I discover my sliced bread soulmate by a brand called Dave’s Killer Bread.

Here’s what makes Dave’s Killer Bread the best thing since, um, sliced bread.

The kitchen is the hub of the home; the place where everyone gathers before they rush out the door and as they settle in for the night. And because everyone gathers there, so does their stuff — purses and backpacks, homework and craft projects, and all those random odds and ends that get collected throughout the day.

One of those things, however, you should banish immediately: that pile of unopened mail. Get it off the counter and off the table.

A vaccine for obesity might sound like science fiction, but a recent scientific breakthrough suggests it’s not all that crazy after all. According to New Scientist, U.S. researchers have found new evidence linking weight gain to adenovirus-36. This common virus has previously been linked to eye and bowel infections, along with the common cold. In […]

In addition, he is expanding the athlete field to include hundreds of new athletes from every country that has at least one CrossFit affiliate.

The grocery store deli counter has long been a safe haven for easy packed lunches. Pick up a pound of turkey and some sliced cheddar, and you’re halfway to a week of easy sandwiches for the family. By Thursday or Friday, however, the lunch meat often begins to look a little suspicious, and you’re left wondering if those last slices are safe to eat. The sell-by or use-by date isn’t always the best indicator, so instead here are three surefire signs to look for.

Fashion is fickle, and sometimes something that’s super-popular one year is “out” (or just a little overplayed) the next. Like you, I am thoroughly sick of faux taxidermy. But there are a few other design trends that other folks may be weary of that I still think are pretty great.

A really good fruit salad can be a truly special treat. Light and refreshing, it is so simple to pull together yet has the power to be the star of your brunch, potluck, and even dessert spread. While choosing the right fruits to add to the bowl will certainly help when you want to whip up a crowd-pleaser, the real key to amazing fruit salad doesn’t come from the produce aisle. No, it actually comes from your pantry — and I can almost guarantee that you already have it in your kitchen right now.

The first week back to school can be a little rough. You’ve got to get the kids back to their regular sleep schedule, pack lunches, sign forms, and possibly deal with some big emotions (theirs and yours). Dinner should be an easy, comforting respite that gives you time to linger at the dinner table and listen to everyone’s days. Making that dinner should not take up too much time or dirty too many dishes (remember you have lunches to pack still!).

One-pot dinners are here to help make back-to-school time easier, tastier, and more comforting. Here are 10 of my favorites.

Did you know that 90-ish percent of the brands sold at Aldi are exclusive to the stores? It’s true! Aldi has a cool handful of its own private-label brands like Specially Selected, SimplyNature, liveGfree (a gluten-free line), and more. And many of these brands include snacks.

In fact, the snacks are so impressive that Kitchn recently ran a story talking about how Aldi snacks actually rival the ones at Trader Joe’s. (Before you comment, read this: The Biggest Thing You Get Wrong About Trader Joe’s and Aldi.)

As a frequent (read: weekly) Aldi shopper and an even more frequent snacker, I figure I’m perfectly qualified to talk about the best snacks at the discount grocery store.
