“But I can lift way more than this, coach!” I have heard this phrase more times than I can count while coaching 8-14-year-olds in small and large group settings. Every single youth athlete, at some point, gets it in their head that the coach is trying to hold them back and doesn’t realize that they possess superhuman strength.

Fall doesn’t start for another few weeks, but there’s something about Labor Day weekend that convinces us all that summer is officially over. No more weekend trips to the beach, backyard barbecues, or summer Fridays. Instead, you’re cooped up inside and forced to pull your chunky sweaters out of storage. Bummer, right?

The silver lining of Labor Day, however, is its abundance of sales. Like clockwork, stores slash prices on furniture, clothes, tech, and, of course, plenty of kitchen accessories. And believe it or not, some Labor Day sales have already started.

Take Cost Plus World Market, for example. Now through September 3, you can take 30 percent off all regularly priced furniture when you use the coupon. (You’ll also get free in-home delivery on in-store furniture purchases that are more than $500.) The store will be launching a few other sales closer to the long weekend (and we’ll be sure to cover), but in the meantime we wanted to highlight some of the best furniture deals that you can take advantage of now!

Just use the promo code FURN30 to save.

The keto diet can be tough to follow, especially for someone with a Starbucks Frappuccino habit. But now there’s a new “secret menu” Starbucks drink that’s keto-friendly and tastes like peach cobbler, and people are going absolutely nuts for it.

Starbucks’ secret menu drinks are the result of fans mixing and matching Starbucks’ ingredients to come up with their own unofficial drinks, like Harry Potter’s pumpkin juice or the secret drink that makes everyone’s colds feel better. It’s like culinary fan fiction, and the latest breakout hit is the “Keto White Drink,” a sugar-free riff on Starbucks’ Peach Citrus White Tea that’s Instagram-friendly and keto diet-compliant.

Welcome to Recipe Equation, the home of Kitchn’s easiest 5-ingredient meals. Don’t worry, this is the kind of math you’ll enjoy — simply add up the ingredients for a quick solution to breakfast, lunch, or dinner.

A can of tuna is like the little black dress of the pantry. Classic and understated on its own, it becomes almost unrecognizable when dressed up with a few smart accessories. We recently took the budget-friendly fish for a spin in our lunch boxes and came out with five (five-ingredient) lunch equations that clock in at fewer than 400 calories.

Being a mother, registered dietitian, and food writer, I spend an inordinate amount of time thinking about how best to feed kids. With my own three daughters, I’ve managed certain aspects of feeding them successfully (they’re enthusiastic vegetable eaters) and others less gracefully (I may or may not sometimes trade lollipops for good behavior).

Like all aspects of parenting, it took me a while to find my feet in the realm of feeding a family. When my girls were tiny, I found the parade of statistics on obesity and overconsumption of sugar to be pretty darn alarming (comparisons of sugar to cocaine reverberated through my brain). As a nutrition professional, it was almost as though I knew too much and responded by being too restrictive, particularly about sugar.

This kitchen had a somewhat odd configuration — water heater and washing machine, but not a dryer? — and two of our readers were plumb sick of it. In just over a month, they transformed this slightly confused space into a kitchen that’s as practical as it is elegant. Plus it has a bonus laundry room!

We are on the brink of fall cookbook release season which, for us at Kitchn, is more exciting than Starbucks’ annual “The Pumpkin Spice Latte Is BACK” announcement. Just like fall fashion magazines, which are typically the biggest issues of the year (TBT to when I’d wait by the door to see who was on the cover of my September issue of Seventeen), fall cookbooks feature the best of the best.

Speaking of the best, these are the cookbook titles we are patiently awaiting. But these aren’t just our predictions for best-sellers — while we’re certain that everyone is going to be clamoring for Ina Garten’s Cook Like a Pro and Chrissy Teigen’s latest Cravings: Hungry for More (so are we), we wanted to feature a few books that caught our eye for other reasons too (yes, there’s an Instant Pot cookbook). Here’s our list.

While yogurt makes a lovely bed for your morning fruit and granola, that’s only the beginning of its wide range of applications in the kitchen. Keep a tub of plain regular or Greek yogurt (preferably full-fat, because fat = flavor) in your fridge, and prepare to experience a whole new world of sweet and savory dishes. Here are more than 25 ideas to prove it.

The Pioneer Woman has helped you out countless times when it comes to figuring out what’s for dinner or what to bring to the potluck. But we wondered if she’d also have your back when it comes to flipping omelets or scrambling eggs.

We recently took a look at two of her collections of nonstick pots and pans to see if they can help you out of sticky situations.
