Rain or shine, if I’m home, there’s not one day that goes by where I don’t spend time in my garden. Although we live in an urban area, our yard is a bit more “country” than most. We allow areas to thrive as they would in the wild, welcome critters that share the land with […]

If you happen to be headed to Pawhuska, Oklahoma (or are interested in planning a trip), do we have good news for you: Ree Drummond (aka the Pioneer Woman) and her husband have invited you (yes, you!) to visit The Lodge on Drummond Ranch.

Fruit is like the hole-in-one of my children’s lunch boxes; it is one of the few things my kids are guaranteed to eat every day. (The same cannot be said for green vegetables or even baby carrots.)
The pitfall of fruit is that some of its best specimens — summer strawberries, delicate fall pears — take a beating in transportation from backpack to bus stop to school cubby. These four fruit-centric snacks always hold up best in my kids’ packed lunches and are my go-to no matter the season.

My secret to getting dinner on the table during the work week is simple: I lean hard on a weekend meal prep session and a roster of recipes that are loaded with make-ahead moments. On the busiest weeks I look for recipes that can be made completely in advance and reheated throughout the week — like soup, frittatas, and shredded chicken. But it’s also helpful to get a jump-start by making the components of a recipe ahead of time, and then finishing it off with a bit of light cooking during the week, like roasting a batch of cauliflower for tacos or prepping the veggies and sauce for pastas or stir-fries.
Here are 15 of my favorite make-ahead dinners.

Vanilla ice cream doesn’t have the best reputation in the frozen dessert world. For starters, it’s an insult to call something “vanilla,” as the suggestion implies that whatever you’re referring to is essentially boring AF. Now we are about to add insult to injury with some cold-hearted facts: Nearly one in five store-bought vanilla ice creams doesn’t even contain vanilla, according to U.K. consumer insight organization Which?. Even worse, they don’t contain fresh cream or milk either — hallmarks of what actually constitutes ice cream.
At this time, we’d like to take a moment and channel our inner Ina Garten to say that sometimes store-bought is not fine.

I remember reading a list once about the top 25 cardinal sins of interior design homeowners make, and situated somewhere near the top was having fake plants. Fast forward to the present, when designers and influencers seem to be advocating for artificial flora with increasing frequency.
Is it true? Have fake plants turned the corner from faux pas to fashionable?

I will be the first to admit that I do not drink enough water during the work day. It’s not for lack of good intention — I start the day strong, but by mid-morning I slowly start falling off track. I’m certain that the culprits (okay, excuses) are the same ones that plague you (i.e., not getting up from my desk enough to refill my glass, forgetting to keep a glass on my desk, or when I do, simply forgetting about it).
No more excuses! Here are seven easy ways to drink more water during the work day (and stick with it!).

If you’re someone who likes to find a deal, stores like HomeGoods and T.J.Maxx are probably your favorites. With shelves full of deeply discounted name-brand merch — sometimes stacked so deep that you literally have to dig for the good stuff) — when you find something you love you’ve earned it.
But if you’ve ever faced the hordes that congregate there on rainy Saturday afternoons, you know that shopping at these places requires more than nerves of steel: You need a strategy.
I reached out to friends and family, a rep for the stores, and did some in-person research (some would call it “shopping”) at various times during the week to check my local stores for foot traffic, status of the stock on the shelves, and the general mood of the staff.
A lot of sites will try to tell you that there’s a single best day to shop at each specific store, but there’s actually more to it than that. Here’s my insight based on this consolidated data.
