My grandpa used to quote an old radio show all the time, one that debuted when he was a kid. “Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men? The Shadow knows!” he’d tell me, and I had no idea what he was talking about, but assumed that The Shadow somehow knew that my next-door neighbor had stolen a package of Big League Chew from a gas station.

The Shadow might also know what kind of internal torment made a woman dip a chicken tender into her soda while she sat in the stands at the U.S. Open tennis tournament. “Who does this?” one person wrote on Twitter, asking the first question that went through all of our minds. (The second question is “Which one is she trying to ruin: the tender or the Coke?”)

If you think that Catherine McCord, the blogger behind Weelicious, looks like she has it all together on Instagram, guess what? She has it all together in real life too. When she’s not feeding her family (kids Kenya, 11; Chloe, 9; and Gemma, 3) inventive smoothies and nutritious meals made with whole foods, she’s running her meal kit company, One Potato, which aims to make organic, family-friendly meals accessible for families across the country.

Whether you believe her or not, McCord swears that mealtimes can be easy — and after just a few minutes of talking to her, we got on board too.

You don’t have to go far out of your way (or dig very deeply into the dark corners of the internet) to find vegan, keto, Paleo, or healthier Instant Pot versions of your all-time favorite foods. Cashew cheese sauce is the new “easy” mac. Keto bread is the new Wonder Bread. Zoodles with cauliflower “cream” sauce are the new fettuccine Afredo. Instant Pot cilantro lime rice is the new Chipotle. See where I’m going with this?

We’re officially witnessing the Goop-ification of the recipe-verse, and the revolution isn’t just trending on Pinterest — these food-space wellness trends are taking over the publishing industry too! Here are all the ways they’re infiltrating brand-new cookbooks this fall.

About a year ago, I confessed on this site that I never wore gloves while washing dishes. But I tried them out, and after a week I was hooked — and now I can say that I’m a total convert. Dishwashing gloves protect your hands from hot water and allow you to avoid touching the slimiest stuff. These days, I’ll barely wipe down a countertop without my gloves on. It’s not that I’m prissy; it’s just that pulling on a glove is so easy, so why would I do chores any other way?

When I wrote my first post, I was using Casabella’s Waterblock Gloves ($7 per pair). At the time, the gloves were $14 a pair — a price the company has since cut by half!! — but many commenters complained that they were too expensive for dishwashing gloves. I get that. Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to try out gloves from a bunch of brands, and there are a few cheaper ones that I like almost as much as my original Casabellas.

Here are the best dishwashing gloves for $5 or less.

Although Labor Day signals the unofficial end of summer, the weather and farmers markets suggest otherwise. That’s more than okay with us, because we’re planning to squeeze as much out of the season as we can before fall hits. This pasta is just one way we’re doing it: It’s full of tender zucchini, juicy cherry tomatoes, and vibrant fresh basil, all pulled together with a super-simple lemon-butter sauce that’s enhanced with a touch of garlic.

Make it while you’re still overwhelmed with summer produce, and suddenly you won’t be in such a rush to get to apples and pumpkin.

Kitchn’s Delicious Links column highlights recipes we’re excited about from the bloggers we love. Follow along every weekday as we post our favorites.

The one and only time I ever attempted to make risotto was such a complete fail (Ina, I’m so sorry that I disgraced your recipe) that I wished I had stuck to making orzo instead, which is way easier to pull off.

Yes, risotto and orzo are completely different beasts, but let’s not get too technical here since they actually have a lot of similarities (including appearance and shape!). Just like risotto, orzo shines when cooked in broth, pairs well with creamy sauces, and should be eaten with a spoon. It’s the perfect starch to start with if you lack beginner’s luck while attempting loftier ambitions.

New in vivo studies have demonstrated little difference in intradiscal pressures and recent MRI studies show us that changes on a scan (including degeneration, disc protrusions etc) can be normal and are common in people with no pain at all.
