Hey everyone! There’s been a lot going on around the club lately, and we wanted to make sure everyone is in the loop. We had a marathon, an upcoming tournament, a fitness champ and more! KnuckleUp members are known for their competitive drive, and this week, it’s coming in spades.
Can You Believe Shes a Mom?
First up, is Amy Eaton. Amy just won a National Bodybuilding and Fitness Championship. She’s 39 years old and a mother of two, and she beat out a bunch of 20 year olds. That’s Amy in the picture, and there’s not much doubt why she won. Congratulations Amy!
Runners!
Last weekend was the Flying Pirate Half Marathon and Matt Costa and several of his masochi- er,…bootcampers were in the race. Once I get everyone’s times, I’ll post them. But I was looking through the results, and I saw several people from the club in the top 100, including Super-Trainer Matt, […]

Do you feel inundated with clamor? Bothered by loud, obtrusive ruckus? Unnerved by the incessant racket of your neighborhood, your city, humanity and all its instruments in general? (Yes, I’m surprised there’s no pill for it yet.) Blame the blaring contraptions our species has come up with. Blame the obliviousness (or grating intentionality) of some people who impose their noise on everyone else, especially at the most ridiculous times of day: contractors’ jackhammers going at 6:00 a.m., the snowblower grinding next door at midnight, the leaf blower at any time of day (in my humble opinion), muffler-deficient cars (with thumping bass) at all hours. Then there’s the incessant traffic, the planes, the trains, not to mention the neighbor’s yippie dog that won’t ever shut up. Is it any wonder the word noise comes from nausea? If you’re one of the ones who can’t seem to get far enough away from […]

In keeping with this weeks promotion for Craig Ballantyne’s body weight workouts (see them here –> www.AbsLikeCraig.com), I want to introduce you to another great body weight exercise that is excluded from most body weight programs…
This is one of those ‘get the reps in’ type of exercises where you want to build up to doing 10, 15 even 20 minutes at a time.
I burrowed this from Sumo training. It’s called ‘Teppos’ but we’ve adapted it to be a triceps exercise.

Shortly after writing the cold cuts post, in which I gave Applegate Farms some praise for being “one of the good ones,” I received an email from a perceptive reader who had a slightly different appraisal of the situation. Applegate Farms, it turns out, doesn’t raise any animals themselves. There’s no farm to visit. They source all their animals from outside farms. Now, there’s nothing wrong with sourcing meat from outside sources, especially when you make a concerted effort to procure good meat from well-raised animals, but I’ll admit that this does change things a bit for me. My idea of the ideal meat producer, however romantic, outdated, or unrealistic it might be, is one that handles every single aspect of the business in house: from raising the animals to feeding them feed grown on site, to tending their pastures, to slaughtering them (or, as the law requires, having them […]

Following up and yesterdays blog post on body weight exercises this post in on Advanced body weight exercises.
As Aaron rightfully point out in the comments section, you don’t have to increase the difficulty of your body weight exercises by adding weight right away, you can also increase the difficulty by using more advanced movements.
Part of my last post (HERE) was a promotion for Craig Ballantyne’s body weight workouts (see them here –> www.AbsLikeCraig.com), but I noticed that one my favorite body weight workouts was excluded from his program…
(I’m pretty sure at least..he lists over a hundred exercises…)
Either way, today I thought I’d share one of my favorite body weight back exercises – The front Lever.
Admittedly I’m not perfect at these, but I am improving.

I've recently read some conflicting advice on Omega 3 supplements in regard to weight loss. Studies have shown that fish oils and other Omega 3 supplements do promote weight loss, but are these supplements healthy? How much is healthy? How much do you need to lose weight? Do you need to even include these in your diet? So time for a little research.

I love heavy weights.
Love them.
My body? It doesn’t quite love them as much as I do.
Based on everything I’ve read and learned…and to  a large degree the mistakes I’ve made over the years, the approach I like to training is as follows:
Hard and heavy for 3-5 months. Typically during the winter.
But then after that I take it right down to 2-3 core lifts and a combination of Body Weight & Body Movement training for at least a couple months.
(This is almost always during the summer for me.)
Then after the summer I ramp back up with Adonis training to prep for the next big Winter push.
I find this Eb & Flow of training is my best option for making gains, but also keeping healthy.
Truthfully, I’d love to do body weight exercises only, all year round, but I find I just can’t maintain my size if I do this for an entire […]
