As the debate over President Obama’s healthcare proposal rages on, Taco Bell continues to give Americans exactly what they crave….melty, crunchy, spicy and heart attack inducing.
I especially love the tagline at the end…

Of course, I would change it just a little bit.

I have been alerted to an extremely entertaining body weight course used by actual Rock Stars while on tour. The course used to cost $27, but it has just been released for free. The thing about being on tour is that often times the band is far from a gym and doesn't have access to equipment. A trainer by the name of Ryan Murdock developed a body weight cardio routine (PDF and videos), called "12-Minute Stage Crazy: Cardio for Musicians". (Note: Ryan's free workout is no longer available. Click the link to see his full "Master Course". This is the program I am personally doing this winter).

[Here’s a pic of Henry Rollins looking like a mad man. Not a huge fan of his stuff, but I respect musicians like him who have “street cred”…I like listening to music of various genres from artists who have lived a little. Kind […]

Since building the Squidoo Lens about Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Workout, I have become a big Deadpool fan and am really looking forward to the movie. I think the studio made a great choice casting Ryan “Smart Ass” Reynolds in the role of Wade Wilson.
But, as I mentioned in the lens, Ryan is naturally a pretty skinny guy.
As a result, adding a whole lot of muscle mass was job #1 as he got ready to take on the role of Deadpool.
And he did a pretty good job.

But we can do better.
In Part 1 of this series, I outlined the concepts behind my Official “Make Ryan Reynolds your Beeyotch” Workout
In this post, I give you a mass building workout that will put Deadpool to shame.
And I have named it…
The Deadpool Mega Muscle Mass Workout

Like I mentioned in the previous article, the key to the success of this mass building phase is the focus […]

I talk about different forms of interval training and circuit training on this blog on a regular basis. I tend to shy away from discussing things like lactic acid and oxygen debt, because these are "zone out" terms. Many people tend to skim when blogs begin to read like Biology text-books. I want to explain how intervals work and go into more details, without making this a mind-numbing technical article.

[A skull engulfed in flames smashing a guitar? I have no idea how this fits in with the article …maybe the burn from lactic acid?]
Why Do We Push, Then Rest A Little, Then Push Hard Again?

Since intense exercise burns a lot of calories, why don't we just push hard the whole time instead of mixing in periods of active rest? I mean…if you have 15 minutes to do some form of training aimed at fat loss, why not spend […]

The Personal Health Investment Today (PHIT) Act of 2009 is posed to help improve the health of Americans by providing financial incentives to invest in disease prevention and physical fitness activities. If the PHIT Act passes, taxpayers would be allowed to place up to $2,000 (for families; $1,000 for individuals) in a pre-tax medical account similar to a Health Savings Account (HSA). In the end, this bill is an effort to reduce government spending on health care.

Covered expenses include:

* Youth camp & physical activity fees
* Membership and dues in a health club
* Exercise/fitness classes or instruction (personal trainer)
* Sports league fees (adult and youth)
* Marathon/Triathlon registration fees
* Equipment used exclusively for participation in physical exercise/activities

Excluded expenses include:

* Expenses incurred from private clubs owned and operated by members
* Clubs offering golf, hunting, sailing and horseback riding activities
* Apparel and footwear not used exclusively for physical activity
* Travel and accommodation expenses associated with participation in physical activity

Thats exactly what we American hard working people need…a little break and an incentive to seek out a healthy lifestyle.

Lets get fit together. And enjoy a break for once.

Regards,
Darrin Walton

Ghrelin and entrainment

“New” research on ghrelin
Apparently, scientists have now discovered ghrelin’s role in meal initiation and it’s entrainment to habitual meal patterns. Funny, because I’ve been talking about this since I started the blog. Judging from the quick look through my collection of ghrelin related research papers, it seems the earliest paper mentioning this effect of ghrelin in humans is from 2001. The entrainment of ghrelin is part of what makes the 16 hour fast so easy after a few days adaptation.
Though it’s not mentioned in the link, ghrelin has other interesting effects as well, such as stimulating brain functions of spatial learning and memory development. From an evolutionary perspective this makes sense; the urge to find food may create more competitive skills to ensure survival.
In a similar vein, the metabolic increase (via incrased norepinephrine/epinephrine) that occurs during short term fasting is a function of the body telling you to […]

I am about a day late in releasing my free "vacation prep" report, but it wound up being 16 pages longer than expected. People have been asking me for something like this for about 2 years. I procrastinated quite a bit, but my hope is that you will find it is worth the wait. I apologize ahead of time for not answering many comments the past week. It was because I was focusing on this report and giving it my all. I will do my best to catch up on as many comments as possible next week.

This post is for all of those people out there who watch The Biggest Loser.
STOP!
TBL is BAD.
But, luckily for you, I am here to help.
I am here to tell you about…

X-Weighted is such a perfect example of the difference between Canadian and American television programming.
Where The Biggest Loser is about quick results, X-Weighted is about long term success.
Where The Biggest Loser is about sound bites and perfect hair, X-Weighted is real.
And where The Biggest Loser is a worldwide ratings success, X-Weighted exists in relative obscurity.

Like most other weight loss reality shows, X-Weighted follows one or two people through their transformation from fat to slightly less fat.
The trainees receive help from personal trainers, nutritionists and various other medical personnel.
Unlike other shows, the stars of X-Weighted are followed for 6 whole months.
6 Months….enough time to make some real changes in your life.
.
Real people getting real results.
And if that isn’t enough for ya, […]
