See Some Warriors Sweatin’ It Uuupp!

I know I promised a new training article two weeks ago but my schedule has been a bit crazy lately. It’s coming, but as its been a while since my last post, I thought I’d drop this success story real quick. It’s good that I have a whole bunch of these stacked away for times when my regular posts run far in between.
This one is from strength coach and former bodybuilder John O’Brien, who turned 40 this summer.
John decided that he didn’t want to enter the big 40 being unsatisfied with his appearance. Guess you could call that a 40-year old crisis. And you do know what the best way to solve an age crisis is, right?
John’s goals were not as extreme as some past success stories, nor are his results as dramatic or off-the-hook-crazy. The reason I wanted to share his story today is actually to bring some balance, […]

On September 8th I asked my readers to host picnics and to send me the results. The following is one of 27 amazing submissions, the best of which will win an entire cow, courtesy of US Wellness. Vote for your favorite on October 8.

The motivation for the get together was provided by the possibility of a free cow. The opportunity to share with our friends how our family has been trying to live an eat was an added bonus. Busy schedules prevented us from planning a large scale get together, but the stars aligned Sunday morning for a dinner date with a few friends later in the evening. My wife and I never hid our agenda, and explained to our friends that we were […]

The Arthur Morgan School Grokfeast was held at 5:00pm on September, 2010. We are a boarding and day school for 7-9th graders in the mountains of western North Carolina. Our program is based on the philosophies of Johann Pestalozzi, N.S.F. Grundtvig, Mahatma Gandhi, Maria Montessori, John Dewey, and Arthur Morgan as well as the Quaker values of simple living, consensus decision-making, and non-violent […]

Our day was a Grok meets Korg kind of day. Although us Moylans are no where near perfect, we try to be as primal as possible most of the time. Imagine when the Korg-ish Aris kids stayed the night a few weeks ago only to learn we have NO cereal in the house…gulp.
We started our day with a trip to the playground. We bundled up pretty good since the temperature was low. Everyone […]

Check out this beautiful PDF of the Endless Wellness Grokfeast

The idea for our Grokfeast came from brainstorming what a true primal feast would look like. The logical answer, we would catch it ourselves! From here, the idea developed to create the ultimate scavenger hunt, hopefully including catching our own dinner! I developed a list for the “hunt” that included catching, gathering and hunting various animals. I also put a lot of emphasis on including primal movements like carrying heavy things, climbing, moving slowly, hanging, etc. This all-day adventure would hopefully provide […]

Sara Kate is a faithful follower of Mark’s Daily Apple, and she encouraged many of us on Facebook to take on the September 30-Day Challenge. Jessica, one of her friends that decided to take on the challenge, also decided it would be fun to organize a picnic and win a cow. It wasn’t hard to get JP on board: he is usually up for anything. The three of us go to the track on Sundays for what we call “Sunday rundays,” which just […]

The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training/circuit training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we'll use sprints as an example here.

Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds

Walk for 10 seconds

Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.

So what you have is a total of 4 minutes of workout time.

Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I'll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work.

Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. They did a study […]

I was SO excited when I heard about your contest! I love grassfed beef and US Wellness. I’ve actually tasted their pemmican and have a nearly empty tub of tallow in the fridge.

My schedule is really full at this time of year, so the only time I had open was the afternoon and evening of Sunday, September 19. With just a week to plan the event, I had to work fast. I didn’t have too many friends familiar with the term “Grokfeast,” but many were interested in a “Primal Picnic.”
First, we found the perfect spot to hold the event. Our friend Guy has a couple of acres with woods, a […]

About a year ago to date, the Seattle Primal Group had their ?rst picnic at a Seattle park. It was love at ?rst sight and since then, we have met up for a cooking class, a Cross?t class, and then a day at a trampoline sports center with a potluck dinner at Gigi Baker’s house. […]

On Sunday afternoon, in the gorgeous, if unseasonably warm, weather currently being enjoyed near Denver, Colorado, a group of 8 humans and 1 corgi named Bugsy gathered for a day of truly primal enjoyment. Melody (our organizer), Katie H., her son Squishy, Katie C., Minnesota Mike (Katie’s boyfriend), John, Peggy and her friend Mike (who is not normally primal, but came along for the food and fun) ate food prepared primally […]
