When it comes to Muscle Building it’s very had to separate fact from fiction, science from marketing and natural from drug induced.
In fact, The only real way to know what is possible in the realm of muscle growth WITHOUT the confounding variable of Steroid use, it to look back to BEFORE steroid use was even possible.
Eugene Sandow lived and died before the scientific discovery of Testosterone, so there is zero possibility that he was using anabolic Steroids during his lifetime (because we had no idea that Testosterone even existed).
So Sandow could be considered an example of the type of muscle that is achievable with the right training and great genetics.
John Barban investigates this very point here ==> Eugene Sandow – Guaranteed drug free bodybuilder

Grokfeast in New York

On September 8th I asked my readers to host picnics and to send me the results. The following is one of 27 amazing submissions, the best of which will win an entire cow, courtesy of US Wellness. Vote for your favorite on October 8.

Are you sitting down? If not, you should be, because I am about to tell you of the GrokFeast we threw that can only be described as the best party of the Neolithic era. One part luau pig, one part dinosaur, and one part giant bonfire dance celebration with one hundred of our nearest and dearest friends is all you need to have a true caveman party.

It all started at six in the morning when we went down to the beach and began digging the pig hole. Once the fire died down and […]

The Prize:
Lardo. What’s lardo? It’s delicious, precious, raw seasoned pork back fat from Mangalitsa pigs. You can slice it and eat it plain. You can melt it into a meal. It makes for a great, calorie dense snack if you’re a constant hiker. The winner of today’s contest will win four blocks of lardo, courtesy of Heath Putnam Farms. That’s roughly four pounds artisan pig fat in an assortment of seasonings (raw, garlic & oregano, Hungarian sweet paprika, black pepper and juniper berries). For the pig connoisseur, Mangalitsa pigs – also known as wooly pigs – are a lard-type swine. Their fat has such a light texture that it can be whipped like cream. If you’re looking for a new pork experience well beyond the joys of bacon, learn more about the wonders of the Wooly Pig, and check out Heath Putnam’s Wooly Pigs Blog.

We started off the NorCal Paleo Grokfeast at our local rockclimbing gym in San Francisco. While we waited for participants to show up we weightlifted, did pull-ups, sit-ups and stretching. Sophia and Justine both unexpectedly showed up in their Vibram Five Finger Toe Shoes — Toe mates!

Next, we headed to Aquatic Park about 2 miles away for our cold water swim. […]

On September 24th 12 Crossfit Balance members ventured to the country near Shenandoah National Park for the Inaugural Caveman Olympiad and Feast. After a delicious meal of slow-roasted pork butt and butternut squash soup Friday night, the athletes retired to their cabins to rest for the next day’s events. Saturday morning, fueled by several pounds of bacon, scrambled eggs, and fresh fruit, all 12 contestants donned their Paleolithic costumes and readied the field of battle. The 8 men and 4 women broke down into 4 teams of 3, and […]

Grokfeast in Austin, Texas

On September 8th I asked my readers to host picnics and to send me the results. The following is one of 27 amazing submissions, the best of which will win an entire cow, courtesy of US Wellness. Vote for your favorite on October 8.

Our Primal Picnic was a meetup of the Austin Primal Living Group on meetup.com. We had a primal potluck picnic at Pease Park, a nice expansive park near downtown Austin. However to get to our meetup we first had to pass by a large group of sickly looking vegans and vegetarians who just happened to be having a meetup at the same time and place. To start off everyone went around and talked a little about how they got into primal living and why it appeals to them. For some it has helped with food intolerances and […]

What happens when two Primal families go camping together?  All the other campers get jealous
We arrived at dusk on Thursday, two moms, two dads, three kids and an aunt, and split up into groups setting up camp, wrestling toddlers in the dirt, and making dinner. Lime juice, herbs and veggies were mixed into a jar, and seafood was speared and lightly grilled over our open fire. We ate by camplight, in the dark quiet of the valley, and stargazed while the little ones dreamed.
Thanks to […]

Master Kazeka Muniz. Notice the awesome gi.

Next Friday, October 15th, Master Kazeka Muniz is flying all the way from Palmdale, CA to teach a seminar in Norfolk. If you have any interest in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, or grappling in general, you really need to be at this seminar.
Why? Because Kazeka Muniz is the man.
If you know Chris Stolzman, you’ve probably heard of Kazeka. He’s Chris’ BJJ coach and used to work for KnuckleUp in Atlanta. He now runs a fitness center in Palmdale, Premium Fitness. And there’s plenty more reasons he’s awesome!

He’s a black belt under Carlos Gracie Junior at the Gracie Barra Academy.
He trained with the Russian AND Georgian Olympic Wrestling teams.
He coached the Cuban Olympic Wrestling team, including 4 gold medalists. He is still welcome on the mat with them at the Olympics.
He coached both Michael “The Count” Bisping and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
He trained at the […]

There are Groks all over the globe! Australia, Singapore, Germany, Canada, Austria, Ireland, Norway, India, Ukraine, Hungary, South Korea, Thailand, Portugal, Sweden and in numerous states across the beautiful U.S. of A. If you’re reading this there is a Grok in your hometown, too.
By the looks of these pictures it appears that I’m well on my way to achieving my life goal of helping 10 million or more people take control of their health. Help me toward my goal, and help others “get Primal” by telling them about Mark’s Daily Apple and the Primal Blueprint. I need all the help I can get! Grok on!
The winner of this contest, chosen randomly, is MDA reader Kyle from Seattle, WA. Congrats to Kyle and many thanks to everyone that participated.
