Note: Check out the forum discussion about the Simple Guide to Getting into Shape.
In the previous article in the Simple Guide to Getting into Shape, we discussed the importance of proper planning, goal setting, and how to execute a plan. Now we’re going to start getting into more specifics. This article is going to focus on fast weight loss and the importance of the acronym, K.I.S.S. or Keep it Simple, Stupid.Jennifer’s Weight Loss Journey
Jennifer was 200 pounds overweight, and decided that it was time she turn her life around and go on a serious diet. She researched diets intensively, read multiple books on the differences between different kinds of diets, learned about the exact nutrition value that should be in her foods, which fats were more important than other fats, which foods most effected metabolism, and so on.
This was all well and good, and surely Jennifer now knew more about […]

I get a lot of questions about supplements even though I’m not a big proponent of them. That being said, there are some supplements that you might find useful depending on your goals. The first four on this list are supplements most people could benefit from. I’m not a great cook and once I find a few meals I like, I’ll go for long periods just eating the same foods in various combinations – a pattern which is quite common among my peers as well. Adding these supplements is an easy way to safeguard against any potential shortcomings of a monotonous diet.
The other ones are supplements that may help with fat loss, performance or just makes life easier some days. They are not essential by any means.
I’ve linked to some products. These are either ones I can vouch for personally or the cheapest ones in their category. I’ve used bodybuilding.com’s […]

The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training/circuit training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we'll use sprints as an example here.
Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds
Walk for 10 seconds
Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets.
So what you have is a total of 4 minutes workout time.
Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I'll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work.
Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. They did a study on […]

Chicken and Shrimp Soup

This week’s soup recipe comes from a military man who prefers to keep his real identity undercover. He did, however, decide to declassify his Chicken and Shrimp Soup recipe for the Primal Blueprint Cookbook Challenge, and we’re glad he did. The soup follows one of our favorite soup-making methods, which is throwing a bunch of healthy stuff in a pot and letting it simmer to deliciousness. All that’s required on your part is a little chopping and stirring. Yes, there are a lot of ingredients, but if you scan the list you’re likely to find that you already have many of them on hand.

In the dark days of winter this soup adds a burst of much needed color. Nutrient-rich yellow pepper, celery, carrots and tomatoes are mostly responsible, although a nice blend of spices and a garnish of cilantro and scallions also brighten up the bowl. Chicken and shrimp add […]

Homemade Good Luck Soup

So, Christmas – Done. New Years Day -Done! Another year older and hopefully wiser.
Have you noticed all the food traditions associated with the new year? Of course my Texan Missus has hers, which involves black eyed peas and leafy greens (representing good luck, good health & good fortune), which is now a tradition I’ve adopted.
I’m thinking the feast you just had on Christmas might have yielded some leftover turkey or ham and with a lot of you in the midst of winter right now one of the easiest, healthiest & quickest meals to put together is a great big ol’ pot of soup, which is also a great way to use up the leftovers. (If you don’t have any ham check out this turkey soup recipe.) I bunged this together in about 30 minutes (hassle-free indeed) and man was it good! You’ll love how good this smells cookin’ up in […]

Lots of people have asked about the best way to track workout progress with the iPhone App. While there are whole apps that specialize in all sorts of tracking/logging, this app focuses more on providing the workout regimen and inspiration for days you cannot or do not want to go to the gym.
That said, we have developed a simple and easy way for you to track all of your bodyweight workouts. Just use the “Send to Friend” button to email your workout to yourself, record the amount of time it took (or number of rounds/reps), and you’ll have a workout log right inside your email (we recommend Gmail).
