Four Exercises to 6 Pack Abs

[I don’t get why people say that Taylor Lautner from Twilight has good abs. I mean, even if he did, how would you be able to see them under all of that fur?]
 
Attaining 6 pack abs is probably easier than you might think. It essentially comes down to two things, proper nutrition (and having very low body fat) and a strong abdomen. This post is going to focus on four great exercises that I’ve recently added to my routine that will help you get a strong abdomen and if you desire, 6 pack abs. Watercress Bacon Soup

Whether you live in an area being hit by a winter cold snap or you’re lucky enough to be basking in a balmy climate, there is comfort to be found in a bowl of soup. A sip of steaming soup will warm and nourish you to your core, but there’s also great comfort found in the fact that you can’t screw up soup too badly. Gather ingredients in one pot, simmer, and voila, you’ve got soup.
There is however, a bit of an art to selecting just the right ingredients and we think Danielle Thalman has done just that with her Watercress Bacon Soup. Winter Split Pea Soup

Winter is arriving if not already here for a lot of you (apparently there’s snow in Houston?) so this is defo soup season. You all know there’s nothing better than a delicious bowl of homemade soup with a nice sangwich. I remember growing up in the tropical Isle of Ireland and the odd day it might be cold and wet my Mum would always make us soup for lunch. It’s always been one of those things that was a staple in our house as any leftover veg from dinner would be made into a delicious soup the next day. Those were the days.
This soup recipe is one of my faves and you’ll definitely love the fresh pea flavour and earthy texture. Off you pop and get the pot out.

Quick ‘notes style’ post today as I need to get away from this computer and get some shopping done:
MUSCLE and your METABOLISM.
1 pound of muscle burns about 5 Calories in a 24 hour period at rest.
Not 50.
Not even 10-12 like commonly stated.
So why the confusion?
Well, if we look at the Katch-McCardle Formula (used for calculating a persons metabolic rate) we see that:
Our daily metabolic rate can be calculated as “Calories burned in a 24 hour period = 370 + (21.6 X LBM(kg))”
Which leads many of people to think that a kilogram of Muscle burns 21.6 Calories in a 24 hour period.
So a pound must burn about 10 Calories right? (21.6 divided by 2.2)
Well not so fast…
As I’ve been saying for a long time now, a pound of Lean Body Mass does NOT mean a pound of muscle.
It includes everything else in your body that is NOT FAT.

A recent study shows fasted training affects the post-workout anabolic response to weight training more favorably than fed state training. This study is very interesting to say the least, since it lends scientific support to explain the beneficial effects from both fasted training and Leangains style intermittent fasting. Let me give you the lowdown on this study in laymen’s terms.
Weight training activates enzymes and switch on genes which upregulates protein synthesis in muscles. Out of these signal mechanisms, mTOR is the boss man that activates p70s6 kinase. And the phosphorylation, “activity” plainly speaing, of p70s6 kinase may serve as an indicator of muscle growth, along with other myogenic transcription factors. Myogenic basically means “from/in muscle”. Nutrition no dubts affects the myogenic signaling mechanisms, but it’s still not fully understood to what degree.
