Frittata Aleta

Eight-year-old Aleta is already thinking like a chef. Not only did she create a frittata packed with nutrients and flavor but she also chose vegetables with a stunning array of colors. Waves of dark green kale, purple cabbage and red pepper will brighten your morning when you sit down to Aleta’s frittata. A frittata is basically an Italian take on an omelet. The main difference is you avoid all the tricky folding and flipping and just let the eggs cook into a round, flat pancake. Almost any combination of vegetables and meat can be sautéed into a frittata, although we’re especially fond of this combination.

Just because they’re made with eggs, frittatas don’t need to be relegated only to breakfast. Fold a frittata in half with layers of sliced meat in the middle for a lunchtime sandwich or serve a frittata for a quick and easy dinner.
Although she deserves it, we […]

I’m really diggin’ our CSA box delivery service. So far the produce has been great and in order to use it all we’ve had to use our noggins and think outside the box a bit, so to speak! Who said you can’t have looks and brains?
This week our box contained organic Fuji apples, spinach, leeks, rainbow chard, broccoli, Valencia oranges & mixed peppers. I turned to old faithfuls for some of these—I used the oranges for Jerk sauce and the mixed peppers went into a pot o’chili.
Each week when our box arrives there’s a newsletter inside from the farm talking about what’s in season and giving tips and such about the fruit n’ veg. They also give a recipe highlighting one of the veggies. I was intrigued by this particular chard recipe not only because I really like leafy greens but also because it used the entire bunch […]

Ok so you might find the next few links interesting. These are from around the web, just random snippets that I’ve picked up in my reading, but I found some very cool information in them. You might too. Here goes…
Kettlebell Exercises – Kettlebell Overhead Presses by Jason C …
By design the kettlebell allows for some unique exercise variations. Although these kettlebell exercises are all overhead presses, they all have a much.
Are You Cycling Your Training? – Charm City Kettlebells
That is one of the main concerns I have with some of the kettlebell training logs I see out there. (Or any WODs or such stuff) It's too much. And it's a lot like competition. Workouts should be cerebral and thought out. Not willy nilly. …
Kettlebell Training Lunge Variations | Kettlebell Training …
Kettlebell training is very versatile, far beyond swings and snatches. Here are four different kettlebell lunge variations. Below the […]

Yahoo, in conjunction with Men’s Health, recently posted an article about 8 foods that will help you sleep better.
In this article, Yahoo and Men’s Health go above and beyond suggesting people to eat before bed, and advise them to also eat low-nutrient, high-carb foods. You would not believe this unless you saw it for yourself.
Here are a few of the foods they listed:
PretzelsYes, they seriously mentioned pretzels, an empty calorie,high-carbohydrate snack food with little to no nutrition value. On top of that, they suggested people snack on “just a few” pretzels, which are “very low calorie”. Seriously, is there ANYONE who is able to eat only a “few” pretzels?
Oatmeal with Sliced Banana
Although this actually does have some nutrients, oatmeal with sliced banana is not a snack for someone trying to lose weight. It’s a full breakfast. What were they thinking putting this in there?
Popcorn
If you thought pretzels was […]

I actually don't believe in the term fitness expert. I don't consider myself an expert. I am a student of fitness. I consider the other bloggers, readers, people who comment, and product owners as one big mastermind. I soak up knowledge, look at and consider the newest philosophies and fine-tune my approach over time. What I recommend today is slightly different than what I would have recommended 2 years ago. Two years from now, it will be slightly different than today.

[I can easily understand how someone could be completely thrown off by all the conflicting advice online. With the Internet, this becomes even more confusing. There has never been so much information available at the click of a button.]

With fitness, there are so many effective approaches to achieving the same result. Take me for example…my favorite method of training is low volume heavy […]

It looks like the shift from healthhabits.wordpress.com to healthhabits.ca is finally happening.
For the next little while, I will continue to post here while directing you over to the new blog.
Hopefully, you like the new design. It is still pretty barebones, but I will be adding new features and improving accessibility over the coming weeks.
Let me know shat you like and don’t like about the new design
Now, back to today’s post
.
another Health Habits transformation: The Healthy Irishman
A few weeks ago, the Healthy Irishman asked me to help transform himself from being merely healthy into something super-human.
And, considering how many posts he has written for Health Habits, I figured I owed him.
So, I put together a particularly nasty workout, beta tested it on one of my guinea pigs, and voila…starting Monday, the Irishman and his visiting younger brother will be putting on a freak show at the Venice Beach Gold’s Gym.
I will […]

Attack that Turkey with peace of mind – KnuckleUp's got your back!

Ho Ho Ho!
This year, the Holidays started early at the gym. And we’ve already got you a gift!
We know how tough it can be to stay in shape when you have the combination Halloween candy – Thanksgiving turkey – Christmas ham attacking you right when it starts to get cold and all you want to do is eat and stay under the blankets.

Not to sound too infomercial-like, but if you add the entire package it comes to $350.
But you’re […]
