Mma Quick Strike Gloves

Mma Quick Strike Gloves
Mixed martial arts is a style of fighting that has become quite standard over the years. This kind of fighting is a combination of manynumerous various forms that many individuals have begun to train in for losing weight and combat competitions. Most individuals who are training in the mixed martial arts fighting type will utilize training gloves. These gloves are constructed to shield the hands – but likewise protect the people that you are fighting with.
The reason they are padded so well is because you don’t wish to take a chance that you or your sparring partner to become hurt for any reason. This is particularly bad when you have a fight coming up. Any small wound is enough to keep you out of the game.
Yet, when you are in the competition and trying to work for the title championship then it is time for the gloves […]

Baba Ghanoush with Squash Chips

Confession: The squash chips failed miserably. Or rather, I failed miserably at the squash chips. I gave it the old college try after reading about Diana’s new love affair, but to no avail. I used a conventional oven to try and “bake” the squash slices, but the chips barely resembled something edible at the end, let alone a chip. They burned easily the first several trials, and instead of crunchy they came out oily, wilted and too-salty. Nothing I would eat if it was served up to me alongside a bowl of baba ganoush!
The baba ghanoush on the other hand was delicious.
And it’s simple to make. Just poke a few holes in the eggplant it to prevent explosion, pop it in the oven on a tray for 30 minutes, remove, peel, pulverize and mix in the other ingredients. It’s a fantastic alternative to non-Primal dips.
Now back to the squash chips. […]

Okay, so today Gina Elko and Billy Frezza are fighting at the AFL Fight To The Finish VII, and I can’t wait to go see them drop their opponents, but to calm my nerves down until the match, a light entertaining video helps.
As you’ve probably imagined, the repercussions of the ridiculous KungFu vs MMA challenge were gigantic; Morrison’s video has gone viral and more and more people are commenting on the fight.
One of those comments pointed me to an even more stupid challenge – a “KIAI” master (whatever the heck that is) wagers $5000 that he can beat any MMA guy. Now, I had never heard of KIAI before, but it involves “air slaps”, something like the HADOUKENS that Ken & Ryu used to throw in the video game Street Fighter.
Can you guess what the result of the fight was?

It saddens me that this guy probably spent 30-40 years teaching […]

Curried Split Pea Soup

Peas are one of my favorite vegetables. Probably because I grew up on mushy peas (an Irish delicacy). When in season fresh peas are a delight but in winter months dried split peas come in handy. They’re not only convenient since they don’t require soaking, but they’re also high in nutrients and low in fat and calories.
If you are concerned about coconut milk, turns out it’s gotten a bad rap over the years. The saturated fat content in coconut milk has been shown in independent studies to be an easily metabolized good saturated fat, which means it does not transform into bad cholesterol, clogging up arteries. Using light coconut milk cuts the calories and fat by more than half, paving the way to a delicious healthy meal.

Is there anything more comforting on a chilly autumn evening than a bowl of soup? It warms the body and the soul, especially when the broth is infused with aromatic, slightly spicy ginger. Ginger has long been thought to be a natural immune booster. With flu season on the horizon, homemade soup with ginger broth is exactly what your body needs. Health benefits aside, an even better reason to make Ginger Soup with Scallops and Shrimp is that it’s darn tasty.
Homemade stock will make the best-tasting soup and if you take time to fill your freezer with chicken stock now, you’ll be thanking yourself all winter. Once you have stock, it only takes a few minutes to infuse the flavor and healing properties of fresh ginger root into it. Ginger adds an intensity of flavor to stock that is both soothing and invigorating. It awakens your senses and warms you […]

How to Beat The Sugar Addiction

Most of you who are reading this are aware that sugar is bad for you. You’re also aware that most likely, you get plenty of sugar just by eating the healthy foods you like. You may not know that the American Heart Association has said that sugar is “associated with risk factors such as obesity, high blood pressure, high levels of triglycerides, and high levels of C-reactive protein, which has been linked to oxidative stress and inflammation”, but you do know that your body doesn’t feel good when you consume a lot of sugar.

[The guy who made this animation has done a lot of really well made and hilarious animations. It’s amazing how much talent some people have!]
There’s one problem though. Despite knowing that sugar is bad for you…you can’t stop. You can’t bring yourself to go without putting sugar in your coffee in the morning, or stop yourself from […]

How Much Rest Between Sets?

You design your own workouts.
You specify your reps and sets.
You modify your lifting tempo and your range of motion.
But, what about rest between sets?

Do you wait only long enough to catch your breath?
Or do you camp out underneath the squat rack having a nice long chat with your neighbor doing deadlifts?

Do you have any idea how long you should be resting between sets?
Well, according to the latest research, “the rest interval between sets is an important variable that affects both acute (short term) responses and chronic (long term) adaptations to resistance exercise programmes”.
The Study
Researchers reviewed 35 studies in which they examined both acute responses and chronic adaptations, with rest interval length as the experimental variable.
In terms of acute responses, a key finding was that when training with loads between 50% and 90% of one repetition maximum, 3-5 minutes’ rest between sets allowed for greater repetitions over multiple sets. Furthermore, in […]
