See Some Warriors Sweatin’ It Uuupp!

I have been alerted to an extremely entertaining body weight course used by actual Rock Stars while on tour. The course used to cost $27, but it has just been released for free. The thing about being on tour is that often times the band is far from a gym and doesn't have access to equipment. A trainer by the name of Ryan Murdock developed a body weight cardio routine (PDF and videos), called "12-Minute Stage Crazy: Cardio for Musicians".

[Here's a pic of Henry Rollins looking like a mad man. Not a huge fan of his stuff, but I respect musicians like him who have "street cred"…I like listening to music of various genres from artists who have lived a little. Kind of the opposite of what is big now.]

Completely Entertaining Writing…Thank God!

Figtastic Salsa

My neighbor not only has a fantastic fig tree (that I’ve been delving into for the past few weeks), but she also had success this year growing fresh tomatoes. The poor crater hasn’t even been in town to enjoy the fruits of her labor so to speak, but we certainly have (with her blessing of course!)

left on our doorstep

Thanks Cristina but now what to do with them? Figs and tomatoes….
You see, I wasn’t really big on figs until I found myself with a tree full of ‘em so pardon me if I went searching for recipes online. Didn’t take me too long to find this gem created by A Gluten Free Guide. I know it may sound strange but this salsa is the dogs bollix. Right now figs are in season so it’s the perfect time to make this with fresh figs vs. dried. For those of you […]

I hope you’ve been enjoying my posts lately. I thought I might do something different today and rustle up a few bits of info from around the WWW. These are some of the news items and blog posts that have been popular over the last few weeks. Leave me your thoughts.

iFitness Hack

The iFitness smartphone application is one of the best and most popular iPhone/Blackberry apps for fitness junkies.

It has a huge exercise database that provides clear instructions and pictures of hundreds of exercises.
It has all sorts of pre-designed workouts based upon your individual fitness goals.
It also lets you design custom workouts
You can even create new exercises and upload pictures.

But, it isn’t perfect.
What I would like to see is an iFitness hack where people like me (trainers) could design custom iFitness workouts for other iFitness subscribers (my clients).
But, you can’t do that.
And since I have had no success in contacting iFitness (email, phone, carrier pigeon) about this issue, I thought that I would throw my request out onto the internet.
So, is there anyone out there with the computer skills to help me design a better iFitness-esqe app?

And for those of you who have no idea what iFitness is, here is an introductory […]

Since building the Squidoo Lens about Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Workout, I have become a big Deadpool fan and am really looking forward to the movie. I think the studio made a great choice casting Ryan “Smart Ass” Reynolds in the role of Wade Wilson.
But, as I mentioned in the lens, Ryan is naturally a pretty skinny guy.
As a result, adding a whole lot of muscle mass was job #1 as he got ready to take on the role of Deadpool.
And he did a pretty good job.

But we can do better.
In Part 1 of this series, I outlined the concepts behind my Official “Make Ryan Reynolds your Beeyotch” Workout
In this post, I give you a mass building workout that will put Deadpool to shame.
And I have named it…
The Deadpool Mega Muscle Mass Workout

Like I mentioned in the previous article, the key to the success of this mass building phase is the focus […]

Shoryuken Workout

Since building the Squidoo Lens about Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool Workout, I have become a big Deadpool fan and am really looking forward to the movie. I think the studio made a great choice casting Ryan “Smart Ass” Reynolds in the role of Wade Wilson.
So, as an homage to Deadpool’s unique sense of humor, I have re-named Phase 1 of my Official “Make Ryan Reynolds your Beeyotch” Workout after one of my favorite Deadpool quotes:

Shoryuken Workout
.
As I mentioned in the previous article, the key to the success of this mass building phase is the focus on your nervous system and fast-twitch muscle fibers.
The theory is that since most hardgainers are slow-twitch fiber dominant, and slow-twitch fibers aren’t built for hypertrophy, we need to do something special to wake up those dormant fast-twitch fibers and force them to grow.
And here’s how we’re going to do it:

Each workout will consist of a series […]

Special Deal From RevGear To KnuckleUp Friends!

Today Morrison received a really exciting phone call from Paul Revlon, the owner of RevGear.
Paul has just ordered a new shipment of BadBoy tshirts (they all come from Brazil) and he wanted to know if any of our members would be interested in the getting the few official Roger Huerta UFC Fight Night 19 t shirt that he’s still got in stock.
It so happens that he’s not going to keep them in inventory too long after the event – it doesnt make much sense, right? But it’s such an unique t-shirt, in such an unusual approach, that we convinced him to let us put the deal here on the blog for all of our friends.
Paul said they’ve only got about 100 shirts left, and he was going to take it down from his website tonight, but Morrison got him to leave it up until […]

Soda Tax = Tax Grab

It looks like my prediction of a American Soda Tax may soon come true.
According to ABC News, “several of the nation’s leading health experts are calling for a tax on soda as a means of curbing America’s obesity-epidemic”.
But wait, here’s the good part:
Their paper, appearing in the most recent issue of the New England Journal of Medicine, calls for a tax on “sugar-sweetened” drinks in order to reduce the consumption of the drinks and lower health costs as well as fund government-run health programs.

FUND GOVERNMENT RUN HEALTH PROGRAMS
“A tax on sugar-sweetened beverages is really a double-win,” said Dr. David Ludwig, a co-author of the paper and director of the Optimal Weight for Life program at Children’s Hospital, Boston.
“We can raise much-needed dollars while likely reducing obesity prevalence, which is a major driver of health care costs, the paper states.
“Ultimately the government needs to raise more money to cover the deficit, […]

I apologize for the lack of updates lately, I’ve been hard at work on a new project…However, something appeared in my in-box today that I had to share with you…
It was an article from the NYTimes about “The Risks and Rewards of Skipping Meals”
In this article, the author attempted to review some of the research being published back in 2007…Specifically a study publshed in Metabolism, which “looked at what happens when people skip meals but end up eating just as much as they would in a normal day when they finally do sit down to a meal.”
The study, conducted by diabetes researchers at the National Institute on Aging, involved healthy, normal-weight men and women in their 40s. For two months, the study subjects ate three meals a day. For another eight-week period, they skipped two meals but ate the same number of calories in one evening meal, consumed between 4 […]
