The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we’ll use sprints as an example here. Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds Walk for 10 seconds Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets. So what you have is a total of 4 minutes workout time. Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I’ll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work. Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. […]

Like any true Irishman, I love me some fishcakes. So much so that I’ve nearly an arsenal of fishcake recipes! In my days, crab in Ireland was pretty much served as a ’salad’ mixed with mayo and Mary Rose Sauce or in a casserole. My first experience with a crab cake was on my first trip stateside, in Martha’s Vineyard and I’ve been hooked ever since. Traditionally they’re made with mayo and sometimes even butter but you know me, that’s not my bag (unless you make homemade mayo–click Mary Rose link above). But really, there’s nothing worse than ordering a crab cake that’s full of mayo and not so much crab, right? You won’t have to worry about that with this recipe! Also good to note, Dungeness crab meat is rated an Eco-Best choice.

Researchers know that your body-fat is not simply a storage place for excess calories, but is in fact an active tissue that secretes multiple compounds.
It communicates with other tissues, including the liver, muscles, pancreas and the brain.
In a “normal” person, communication between body-fat and other body tissues helps to optimize metabolism keep body weight stable.
However, in obese individuals:

Fat cells become stressed as they over-grow in order to store the increasing amounts of fat
This excessive cell growth may cause decreased oxygen delivery into the tissue;
Individual cells may die (at least in mouse models),
And fat tissue inflammation ensues.

This leads to mis-communication between fat cells and the other body tissues responsible for metabolism.
And this mis-communication leads to lifestyle diseases like type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
The Science
To understand this cellular mis-communication better, the researchers began by collecting fat samples from people undergoing abdominal surgery.
Utilizing their giant brains, the scientists were able to identify […]

Last week, President Obama nominated Dr. Regina Benjamin for the position of Surgeon General. (video of the nomination)
Not exactly a sexy news story.
Until this happened…

Whoops
Fox News must be really embarrassed by this.
I bet someone got fired for allowing this douchebag on the air.
I bet Cavuto totally freaked out off camera (ala Bill O’Reilly?).
Because, you know, Fox News is known around the world for being Fair and Balanced
It’s not as if knew that this Karolchyk guy has a bit of an issue with obesity.
It’s not as if they planned this good cop/ bad cop routine in advance.
I mean, how could they have known?
It’s not like Cavuto and this meathead have done this routine before.
It’s not as if someone from Fox would ever have vetted this guy and found these commercials he created to advertise his gym:

Classy
Just like these guys.

I’ve thought of about a million different ways to explain this…and the best I’ve come up with is a fictional story…
So here it goes.
Why Eat Stop Eat works well for women.
Janet first met Kevin when they were in College.
Kevin was 6′2″ and 205 pounds. While he wasn’t an ‘athlete’ he worked out regularly and maintained a fairly muscular build for his height.
Janet was 5′6″ and 135 pounds. In her youth she was involved in just about every sport imaginable. From field hockey and soccer to swimming and dance, Janet was active, as a result she had the typical ‘fit’ and athletic body that other women her age hated her for having!
Janet didn’t really have a weight issue during college. Sure, her weight increased and hovered around 140 pounds by her senior year, but for the most part she had it under control.
That is until she and Kevin got married and […]

The entire KnuckleUp team is proud of Omar’s performance at the Fight To The Finish VI match. Omar dominated the fight throughout the 4 rounds (over 15 minutes on the Cage!), displaying amazing conditioning, strength, and technique.
The hard training absolutely paid off; Omar showed amazing skills, offsetting his opponent right from the beginning. Short after the bell rang, Omar took Casey to the ground with a beautiful takedown, and that was just the start.
The battle lasted for 4 rounds, which shows the level of conditioning of these athletes. At the end, however, while defending his guard, Omar accidentally hit Casey on the chin with an illegal kick.
The referee disqualified Omar, and gave Casey the title.
Even though we agree with the decision, and hope Casey’s injuries are only minor, it was clear that Omar won the fight.
Here are the videos to prove it:
