The Philosophy of Fitness

The more challenging or threatening the situation or context to be assimilated and affirmed, the greater the stature of the person who can achieve it. The demon that you can swallow gives you its power, and the greater life’s pain, the greater life’s reply.” ~ Joseph Campbell from The Power of Myth (Canada)

Getting in shape is hard work.
Getting out of shape is much, much easier.

Getting fit requires self-discipline.
Getting fit requires the ability to say no.
Getting fit requires sacrifice.

But, it’s worth it.

The demon that you can swallow gives you its power
.
Thanks to TC @ TMuscle for putting me onto this quote.

The basis of Tabata Training is 4 minutes of intense interval training. What you are doing is taking an exercise we’ll use sprints as an example here. Sprint as hard as you can for 20 seconds Walk for 10 seconds Repeat 7 more times for a total of 8 sets. So what you have is a total of 4 minutes workout time. Tabata Training can be done with a number of different exercises the idea is to use an exercise that gets the whole body involved or at least the major muscle groups.Tabata Training can be done with Barbells, Dumbells, Kettlebells or just Bodyweight exercises. I’ll give you some other exercises and routines to try in a minute but first let me give you some background and how Tabatas work. Tabata Training was developed by Izumi Tabata (imagine that) at the National Institute of Fitness and Sports in Tokyo, Japan. […]

Spice Month Round Up

For those of you who are regular followers of the site, now you will no doubt be experts in using spices from that infamous spice rack in your kitchen. For the entire month of August I gave you guys recipes containing the most popular spices requested. What I’ve decided to do today is give a run down of what we made as well as highlight some other recipes that I’ve used containing your requests. Now it’s time to tuck into that rack (that didn’t sound so good, did it?) and get cookin’!
We kicked off the proceedings with one of my faves….
Allspice. I did a Jerk seasoned trio of recipes with this bad boy just so everyone could try it out with no excuses! Tell me, who made the jerk sauce? I also busted out a Banana Buckwheat Muffin recipe using allspice for all my baking buddies. Now, these were the […]

I am about a day late in releasing my free "vacation prep" report, but it wound up being 16 pages longer than expected. People have been asking me for something like this for about 2 years. I procrastinated quite a bit, but my hope is that you will find it is worth the wait. I apologize ahead of time for not answering many comments the past week. It was because I was focusing on this report and giving it my all. I will do my best to catch up on as many comments as possible next week.

No nonsense 6 pack abs

Admittedly I’ve been very heavy on the science and philosophy in my last couple posts, so I’d like to bring this one all the way back to square one.
Addressing wants and needs.
Bottom line: Many of us workout, slave away in the gym, watch (stress over) what we eat, read about nutrition, read about training…because we want to look better.
And we have some pretty visual goals when it comes to what “look better” really means.
It doesn’t matter if you are a man or a woman…at some point you’ve said to yourself “I want a 6 pack”
A 6 pack may not mean your are healthy, or even in shape..but the visual effect is striking!
So here is the no nonsense truth about getting a 6 pack:
You already have one.
No kidding. It’s there..it’s just being blurred out by a layer of body fat.
So the solution should be obvious – remove the fat, reveal the […]
