After 6 weeks of training, the subjects doing the intervals had lost more fat. READ: 4-6 30-second sprints burns more fat than 60 minutes of incline treadmill walking. (University of Western Ontario)Additionally, there are a handful of reliable studies (by Laval University, East Tennessee State University, Baylor College of Medicine, and the University of New South Wales) that also prove that shorter, high-intensity cardio sessions result in greater fat loss over time than longer, low-intensity sessions.Woo-hoo! Email PrintWhile some trends in health and fitness come and go quickly, it appears that high- intensity interval training (HIIT) will be here to stay. According to an American College of Sports Medicine survey of nearly 4,000 fitness professionals, HIIT will be the hottest fitness trend for 2014. HIIT ranks in the top 20 for the first time in the survey’s eight-year history, surpassing other previously popular exercise regimes such as strength training, Zumba and Pilates.High-intensity interval training involves short bursts of intense exercises followed by a short period of recovery. Typically, HIIT workouts can range from 10 minutes to about 30 minutes, and little or no gym equipment is needed. Some studies have shown that HIIT workouts burn more fat than longer, more mundane workouts, and also could be better for your heart

The Impact of Nutrition on Autoimmune Disease – Part 3 8 Comments Thursday, November 7th, 2013 Written by: Matt Baran-MickleBe sure to check out Part 1 and Part 2Metabolism and ImmunityThe obesity epidemic is widely recognized, and while the precise causes are not entirely clear, the presence of excessive nutrient intake and subsequent systemic metabolic dysfunction is not controversial. Obesity is frequently accompanied by a variety of conditions that are collectively referred to as the metabolic syndrome, including high plasma glucose, high plasma fatty acids/triglycerides, hypertension, and insulin resistance; immunological alterations in obesity are increasingly recognized as well, and the presence of chronic inflammation is a hallmark of the condition.(image: Kanneganti & Dixit, 2012)These immunological alterations are quite pronounced, and include the accumulation of activated lymphocytes and innate cells in obese fat tissue, and a depletion of Treg cells, as well as mucosal barrier disruption and dysbiosis. Recent work has begun to unravel the interrelation of immunity and metabolism, and provides some intriguing evidence for our developing understanding of autoimmune disease.Like every other cell, leukocytes require energy and metabolic substrate to maintain normal cellular function, and to divide and proliferate.

We all know and follow the fundamental rules of the market place, but when we are in the gym we tend to forget about profit maximization and the minimal investment, maximal returns principle. It is quite funny that our gyms are among the few places in our economy-driven society where people tend to forget about the fundamental rules of the market place. The way many of weekend-warriors and fitness junkies train is in fact the exact opposite of the all-governing principle of profiteering.
