While some celebrities like to say that they are genetically blessed with a high metabolism, many other stars admit to working hard to stay in shape. Trainers, nutritionists, strict training schedules and diets—being a celebrity is a full time job when it comes to maintaining appearances. However, sometimes, movie and music stars are required to get into shape and slim down quickly for an upcoming audition, tour, or red carpet event. Often, this is when celebrities turn to high-intensity interval training.Image courtesy of hin255 / FreeDigitalPhotos.netWhat Is High-Intensity Interval Training?High-intensity interval training, or HIIT, is considered a form of cardiovascular exercise, geared towards torching calories and fat. It can help tone, and may help musculature seem more defined by melting off the layer of subcutaneous fat; however, it is unlikely to build significant amounts of muscle.HIIT alternates short bursts of high intensity work with slightly longer rest periods. High intensity means anywhere from 80% to maximum capacity for 30 seconds.

Dear Mark: HIIT, Omega-3s and Cooking, and Gluten-Free Baked Goods It’s time, yet again, for another edition of Dear Mark. As per usual, I’m doing a roundup of reader questions. First, I cover high intensity interval training, also known as HIIT. It’s the subject of an ongoing study that’s been getting a lot of play in the media, and, while we don’t have access to the as-yet-unpublished research, we do know a little something about HIIT from numerous other studies. Next, a reader asks about the effect of cooking on the omega-3 content and stability of salmon.

Yay the sun came out again which means this going to be a glorious Sunday : ) I was hoping for a lay in but no I woke up at 7.30 so I got up and had a hot water and lemon, coffee and hemp milk and……. Yep a smoothie! This was perfect fuel for my shoulder Tabata session (explained below). Whole session took 16 minutes which was great but still a killer!

I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping for an easy weekend. Yes, I realize I’m saying that on a Sunday but my weekend is Sunday so just go with it. So to go with that whole easy feeling, I want to share a graphic that FitKit sent out earlier this week about HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training). The ironic thing was that my chiropractor (slash boss) had sent out an article to the team about the benefits of HIIT this week week. Our office is filled with runners, soccer and basketball players, cross fit enthusiasts, as well as other fitness minded folks, it’s important to remember and share the benefits of HIIT training with our patients. We use HIIT workouts in our training sessions but it’s important to share why this type of training is important and some tips on how to incorporate/use it in your workouts. And that’s what I’m going with today, sharing:Are you a fan of HIIT workouts?Share this: This entry was posted in Fitness, Talk Less Say More by admin

Remember how I wrote about my love for strength training? I almost love HIIT just as much. If you are unfamiliar with HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training), there’s a great article here about it’s benefits. This month, during the Whole30, I’ve been trying to focus on getting consistent with my workouts as well as my eating. I thought I had it dialed in pretty well, but after listening to a podcast the other day I made a few tweaks to my training plan.

TABATA TRAININGPosted onApril 20, 2013bypgrimstadToday I got the chance to try the latest trend sweeping gyms everywhere- Tabata training.  My Friday Total Body Conditioning Class got to try it with me!  If you’re not familiar with it, let me explain.  Tabata is a form of interval training, where you work for 20 seconds, rest for 10 seconds and repeat for 8 cycles- a total of 4 minutes. A true Tabata training session will push you to the max- something that’s definitely not for everyone
