Eating in All Directions 6 Comments Thursday, August 22nd, 2013 Written by: Stephanie McCormackMaybe you’re a hard-charging athlete with dreams of standing atop a CrossFit podium or being tops in a local race. Maybe you’re a weekend warrior pounding the pavement between hours at your day job, hoping for some sort of athletic advantage or boost in your training. Perhaps you’re after an aesthetic goal like leaning out or getting jacked with performance being secondary. If you’re looking for an edge, there’s no doubt that nutrition is bound to be paramount in your mind. After all, there’s little debate at this point that you can out-train a suboptimal diet forever. No matter your group – performance- or aesthetics-driven – it’s easy to fall prey to the rookie (and sometimes not-so-rookie) mistake of piling several nutrition protocols on top of one another in the hopes that more equals better. If you congregate with athletes, it won’t be long before you hear talk of fueling

We all know and follow the fundamental rules of the market place, but when we are in the gym we tend to forget about profit maximization and the minimal investment, maximal returns principle. It is quite funny that our gyms are among the few places in our economy-driven society where people tend to forget about the fundamental rules of the market place. The way many of weekend-warriors and fitness junkies train is in fact the exact opposite of the all-governing principle of profiteering.

I’ve been hanging out w/ some people, affiliated with “Beachbody” (P90X, Shakeology, I’m not selling it. Aside from the $$ aspect of it–Shakeology isn’t cheap– it seems to offer a usefully supportive community similar for that sort of thing, except there, the answer to many questions is “Shakeology” instead of “pump/ CGM” LOL…) who work out a lot with both general health and weight loss involved, although some of them are into lifting and getting more muscle, which is a separate challenge. After 5 weeks, I’ve noticed that when I don’t eat 1800 calories/ day for a day or two, I’ll stop losing weight so I think that’s the minimum number of calories. The people who are really into it and have gotten excellent results pay attention to macros, or macronutrients, adjusting the %age of carb/ protein/ fat depending on what their goal is.

You Are What Your Mother and Father (and Grandmothers and Grandfathers) Ate On September 11, 2001, passenger jets struck the Twin Towers, leveling them, killing thousands of New Yorkers, and traumatizing tens of thousands more. Among those directly affected, but not killed, by the attack were 1700 pregnant women. Some of those women developed post traumatic stress disorder, some did not.

What Kind of Hungry Are You? 24 Comments Wednesday, August 14th, 2013  Repeat after me, “Ice Cream (or food/drink of your choice) is NOT the miracle cure for (insert current life problem here).”  Come on- say it with me, “Ice cream is NOT the miracle cure for a bad day.” Okay, now let’s try this one, “I do not need to eat Breakfast at 7am, lunch at 12pm and dinner at 6pm if I’m not hungry at those times.” And one more for good measure, “If (insert spouse/friend/etc. name here) is eating pizza, I do not need to eat pizza too.” Now, how do you feel about the things you just said? What’s going on between those ears of yours? (I understand that some of you may not often experience ‘action’ in that region – but now would be a good time to go ahead and put on the old thinking cap.)I want you to think about everything you ate yesterday

I personally love to fast and as our body goes through it’s elimination cycle up until about midday, it is best to not have big breakfast, but rather have easily digestible juices that give your body the nutrients need, alkaline the system while not putting too much pressure on the energy reserves of the body in having to digest food while it is going through its cycle. I believe you should eat during a 6 – 8 hour window and then allow your digestive system to rest for the balance of the 24 hours. A lot of our energy is taking up by having to digest our food so giving your digestive system a break will enable your body to put more energy into healing itself and will strengthen your digestive system and thereby your immune system as a high percentage of your immune syst em’s effectiveness comes from the digestive system…. If you don’t have digestive health, your general health is questionable.By fasting you will improve the beneficial bacteria in your gut, this supports your immune system and when you have a healthy immune system you won’t come down with the flu’s or coughs or colds, you will be less likely to get sick , you will feel better in yourself and will sleep better.
