It should come as no surprise that I’m a proponent of intermittent fasting. In fact, despite trying many other nutrition schemes, I was never able to gain muscle without getting fat before hopping on the intermittent fasting bandwagon.Given that I’ve been drinking the Kool-Aid for quite some time now, I’m approached by eagar souls looking to dive in to a world of fasting and feasting without boundaries. But beware: This could be costly. You have to set yourself up with realistic expectations, and avoid common newbie mistakes. Here are some mistakes you probably are making, followed by some suggestions for improvement.1. You Still Eat Garbage“I struggle with fat loss.” That’s the most common email I get by far.“Tell me about your nutrition.” That’s always my reply.“Well…it could be better.” That’s the reply I get back…83.4% (precise estimate) of the time. Now, I eat like Goku and build muscle without getting fat with Chaos Nutrition principles, but the fact remains: nothing (chaos, intermittent fasting) makes up for crappy nutrition. You have to have a decent idea of what to eat.You don’t know what to eat

By Corrie PikulIf you’ve been sitting around for the past three months (or longer) reliving your 2000s wardrobe choices via old episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there’s one specific way to get back in shape — fast. You heard about the interval workouts that helped your friend lose her baby weight before she finished maternity leave and the high-intensity DVDs that promised to tone you “in just 60 days.” Now even university researchers are publishing papers that sound like infomercials, claiming that you can get fit in just two weeks, using an approach called HIIT.HIIT (high intensity interval training) involves short, challenging bursts of activity with rests in between. It’s not new: Hard sprints are familiar to athletes and jocks. What’s notable is that this type of workout, which can be done in 20 or 30 minutes, has been adapted for adults of most ability levels and that it’s been compared in the lab with the traditional, I’m-getting-serious-about-fitness workouts of 45 to 60 minutes of cardio 4 to 5 times a week, with impressive results.Multiple studies led by exercise physiologist Martin Gibala, PhD, the chair of the department of kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, have found that HIIT workouts can provide the same cardiovascular and muscular benefits in half to one-third the time as those endurance workouts, in — yes, he says it’s true — two weeks. A separate study from Ontario’s University of Guelph showed that a total of seven hours of HIIT over two weeks raised women’s fat-burning power, compared with 12 hours of medium-speed sessions

On FitnessWe all want to get more for less, including a bigger payoff from our workouts in less time.High-intensity interval training (HIIT) helps you do that by improving your current fitness level in short sessions, working to increase your metabolism and cutting your workout sessions to a fraction of the time. Interval training alternates high-intensity bursts of exercise with periods of low-intensity exercise, or active rest. HIIT requires you to raise your heart rates to 85% or more of its maximum capacity.

June 2013: Discover Something WonderfulQ1: Is HIIT the way to go for weight loss?I’ve read that HIIT (high-intensity interval training) is great for burning fat and losing weight — maybe even better than steady-state aerobic activity. Should I give it a try?A.?This is an ongoing — and often intense — debate, but experts increasingly seem to be siding with the HIIT approach. “At this point, there’s no longer an opinion when it comes to HIIT vs.

Have you reached a plateau and don’t know what to try next? Would you like to get the benefits of an hour-long cardio workout in a fraction of the time?If any of these raised an eyebrow, high intensity interval training, or HIIT, may be for you.HIIT, involves alternating bursts of high-intensity effort, reaching close to 90 percent maximum heart rate, with lower intensity recovery periods to achieve improved fitness in a shorter amount of time than through steady-state training. It works by combining anaerobic and aerobic fitness, getting the most of both types of training.Benefits of HIIT include a metabolism boost, increased calorie consumption both during the exercise session and post-workout, faster building of lean muscle and maintenance of lean muscle throughout weight loss.Using a professionally designed plan isn’t necessary, but it can be a great start if you are new to HIIT. Sticking to a plan helps track progress, motivates you while training and pushes you to improve

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article describing some of the basic principles of intermittent fasting. You can review that article to get all of the details and set the frameworks for your nutrition plan.In the second part of this series, I detailed how to set up your caloric intake and establish a baseline of macronutrients for the day. You can also see an example of how to set up your eating plan based around evening training sessions.Today, I want to break down how to set up your daily nutrition plan using intermittent fasting for those who do morning training sessions. For my own personal schedule, I train in the mid-morning, so here I’ll show you what to do for that time of day and also for an early morning session. Before I get into the specifics of this, I want you to understand that I am by no means saying intermittent fasting is the only way to eat. I use this myself and many of my personal training clients love it, because they have seen great results in fat loss, strength and energy and they have been able to simplify their daily meal plans. There are some days when my fasts last 18 hours and some days when they last only 12.

Primarily Eat Stop Eat is known as a diet plan treatment guideline that will help drop some weight, in no way by eating fewer, but yet having the suitable meals in the correct time. It s not really your own regular fat burning plan plus it s certainly not the same as all those strategy guides in abs. Brad Pilon published the Eat Stop Eat program a few years.

Hey everybody, we have another guest post for you all today from TK Cook over at Fitz101. It is all about HIIT or High Intensity Interval Training (an exercise concept much like our own Cardio Conditioning). I’m sure that you’re going to love his post!Judging solely by the name of the concept, it would be pretty easy to guess that High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is an exercise program that will push you to your limits. For people who have no idea whatsoever about this particular type of training, it’s the only thing they know for sure about HIIT
