Tabata Training The tabata training method is named after the Japanese scientist who brought this type of training to the worlds attention following his 1996 study.Tabata training is a type of high intensity interval training (HIIT), an exercise strategy that uses short periods of high intensity work, interspersed with recovery periods. A tabata interval consists of 20 seconds of all out maximum effort, followed by 10 seconds of rest. This sequence is repeated 8 times (i.e. a total of 4 minutes). In my training sessions, depending on the session length and the client’s fitness levels, I will get my client to perform between 4-8 tabata intervals in a workout.Don’t let the shortness and simplicity of tabata fool you though.

By Corrie PikulIf you’ve been sitting around for the past three months (or longer) reliving your 2000s wardrobe choices via old episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, there’s one specific way to get back in shape — fast. You heard about the interval workouts that helped your friend lose her baby weight before she finished maternity leave and the high-intensity DVDs that promised to tone you “in just 60 days.” Now even university researchers are publishing papers that sound like infomercials, claiming that you can get fit in just two weeks, using an approach called HIIT.HIIT (high intensity interval training) involves short, challenging bursts of activity with rests in between. It’s not new: Hard sprints are familiar to athletes and jocks. What’s notable is that this type of workout, which can be done in 20 or 30 minutes, has been adapted for adults of most ability levels and that it’s been compared in the lab with the traditional, I’m-getting-serious-about-fitness workouts of 45 to 60 minutes of cardio 4 to 5 times a week, with impressive results.Multiple studies led by exercise physiologist Martin Gibala, PhD, the chair of the department of kinesiology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, have found that HIIT workouts can provide the same cardiovascular and muscular benefits in half to one-third the time as those endurance workouts, in — yes, he says it’s true — two weeks. A separate study from Ontario’s University of Guelph showed that a total of seven hours of HIIT over two weeks raised women’s fat-burning power, compared with 12 hours of medium-speed sessions

Have you reached a plateau and don’t know what to try next? Would you like to get the benefits of an hour-long cardio workout in a fraction of the time?If any of these raised an eyebrow, high intensity interval training, or HIIT, may be for you.HIIT, involves alternating bursts of high-intensity effort, reaching close to 90 percent maximum heart rate, with lower intensity recovery periods to achieve improved fitness in a shorter amount of time than through steady-state training. It works by combining anaerobic and aerobic fitness, getting the most of both types of training.Benefits of HIIT include a metabolism boost, increased calorie consumption both during the exercise session and post-workout, faster building of lean muscle and maintenance of lean muscle throughout weight loss.Using a professionally designed plan isn’t necessary, but it can be a great start if you are new to HIIT. Sticking to a plan helps track progress, motivates you while training and pushes you to improve

It’s 12pm and I’m having my first meal. Not because I’m too busy to eat, hate breakfast, or I want to slow down my metabolism. It’s all part of the master plan I used to drop the most weight I EVER HAVE while maintaining the same body fat in only 30 days. Why did I do it? I told one of my old (young) college professors I would beat her in a half marathon, and in order to increase my speed I had to be lighter on my feet, which means dropping some serious LBS

While everyone recognizes the benefits of keeping fit, doing some cardio and having a regular fitness plan,  there’s no doubting that it can take a while to get the results you want. During this time you may plateau and seemingly stop making any progress at all, leaving you feeling like exercise is a chore. If you find that while jogging on the treadmill or sweating away at the back of an exercise class, you’re constantly clock watching then it’s time to make a change. One way to shorten your exercise time but really reap the benefits of a good workout is with HIIT, high intensity interval training. For years people have believed that when it comes to cardiovascular, fat burning exercises if you want to see results you have to put the time, effort and hard work in. Another idea is that the larger you are, or the more you fat you want to lose, then the longer it takes.
