I’ve recently been introduced to a new type of workout, called Tabata Training. If you’re not familiar with Tabata, it’s a basic workout form of high intensity interval training with enormous benefits. The idea behind Tabata is to workout as hard as you can for only 4 minutes and it will have the same benefits as 30 minutes or more of cardio.Photo Credit: www.tabatatraining.orgTabata was founded by a Japanese scientist named Izumi Tabata, who conducted a study comparing moderate intensity training with high intensity training. The athletes who trained with moderate intensity workouts for 5 days a week for 6 weeks showed an increase in their cardiovascular system, but little results in their anaerobic system.

Q&A: Rest Between Exercises Written on March 29, 2013 in Exercise, Q&AHello there! If you are new here, you might want to subscribe to our email list for free updates on this topic! Question:How long should I rest between exercises?Answer:It depends on your goals and your current level of conditioning. If you’re just starting out I recommend resting just long enough after an exercise to not feel winded when starting the next. Depending on your condition you may not feel winded at all, especially since your focus during the first few weeks should be on learning and practicing proper form rather than training intensely. However, as you become more skilled, learn to train more intensely, and gradually use more resistance you will start to experience a greater metabolic and cardiovascular demand, especially during compound exercises involving large muscle groups. At this point, if you are only concerned with increasing muscular strength and size it probably makes little difference whether you rest a few minutes between exercises or rush from one to the next.

With the looming winter weather and seemingly continuous snow until the end of March, the feeling of winter burnout has hit full force. Winter burnout often coincides with another type of burnout this time of year as well—workout burnout. How can you get through your workout burnout?  Try Tabata training.  Switching up your workout, by adding or changing intervals, not only keeps exercise mentally stimulating, but also keeps you in better shape as your body will not become immune to the exercises, causing a plateau in your weight loss.In general, interval workouts improve cardiovascular fitness.

A Guide to Tabata Training for TriathlonsTabata is a high intensity four minute workout that has been proven to improve performance in many athletic disciplines. Tabata is especially attractive to triathletes because of the amount of time that normally needs to be devoted to triathlon training.Due to the fact that triathletes need to train across three different disciplines finding enough time to train and make progress can be difficult. This is particularly true for triathletes who need to support themselves with full time work while they are training…Tabata training will not only help to reduce the amount of time you need to spend training it can also help to produce breakthroughs in your performance. Tabata improves both your anaerobic and aerobic fitness in the same workout.

Whether you’re female, male, a fan, or not a fan of the Bachelor’s Sean Lowe, it may have crossed your mind a time or two how this hottie got that amazing body of his. From what we’ve dug up, it looks like he’s putting in a lot of effort in the gym and the kitchen.Sean has been working with his personal trainer, Sagi Kalev, since before he was cast on The Bachelorette for Emily Maynard’s season. Kalev put Lowe on his three-part body beast regimen that consists of high intensity interval training, fast and heavy weight lifting, and some serious focus on proper nutrition. When Sean’s not spending all of his time filming on the show, he’s putting a lot of focus into eating a year-round healthy diet. His nutrition is based on eating 5-6 portioned meals a day with lean proteins, low glycemic carbohydrates, and essential fats (with some pizza and whoopie pies thrown in every once in awhile).According to Lowe’s sister Shay, on her own family blog, Lowe was extremely busy while filming for the shows so he had to work with what he had when it came to his diet. That may explain the extra pop of abs in all of his photo shoots compared to his shirtless sightings on the show.Lowe’s trainer, Kalev, happened to do a lot of talking up for the guy during an interview with the Huffington Post.“Working with Sean, I knew that he was going to be under a lot of pressure.

As a (faux) runner, I have been looking avidly at different types of cross-training and strength training. Of late, given the constraints of time in a full-time working mom’s life, I have started looking into at home DVDs and have been doing the couple I have. I was looking to change things up when I received this DVD from Cathe. The ‘All Out Low Impact HIIT’ is part of the X-Train series. When I first got the DVD, I was excited to try the HIIT, but not too sure about the Low Impact
