I enjoy the feeling of a muscle pump and I don’t get that from crunches and leg raises. However, I’ve made it my goal to train abs 2-3x per week. Funny thing is, when I was in high school, I did ab exercises daily and had no visible abdominal definition; these days, I do 10 crunches per week and have more noticeable abs.

This time of year, fat loss is an extremely popular topic. As with most topics, the fitness industry is full of many controversial opinions as to the right way to go about it. However, over the years I have found that many of what seems to be a raging debate can be quickly settled with a simple understanding of context. What is an excellent approach to take in one context can be totally inappropriate in another

If you are like many people I know, after Thanksgiving you feel terrible about the food choices you made and think you have totally blown your “diet.” Some will decide to take matters into their own hands immediately and get back on track. Others may start the spiral downward till New Years and let all their hard work for the year be sabotaged. And then there are those who may have heard about new research on intermittent fasting and think that’s the way to undo the holiday damage. In an unpublished study of 26 obese adults, those who fasted completely every other day and ate with no restrictions the rest of the time lost about the same amount of weight in two months as those who didn’t fast at all. But four months later, after patients were off the intervention, those who had the initial “intermittent fasting” intervention had dropped more pounds and had greater improvements in memory than those on a standard diet. [Tweet this.]Study author William Troy Donahoo, Ph.D., said at a conference that the difference in weight loss may have been due to people continuing to fast after the study ended, or that fasting somehow changes your metabolism. So should we all jump on this bandwagon

I happen to be a list person. I love lists, and statistics as well, and one of my favorite routines as the end of the year approaches is creating the New Year’s Resolution List. My usual approach is to write down all the things that I plan and hope to accomplish during the next year, but this time I decided to change the strategy a little.I was curious to see what other people place on top of their NYRL, and was not surprised to find out that 37% of people who do lists set weight-related goals. This is outnumbered only by resolutions related to education and self-improvement, so it’s quite obvious that people are interested in managing their weight more efficiently. And as I write this word, “efficiently”, the first thing that comes into my mind is TIME. If people would manage their time better, they would have more time for workouts and therefore better results in terms of weight management, in the long run

I thought you might like to know how we’re getting on with our intermittent fasting (or 5:2 fast diet) that we started in June this year just before we went on our cycling trip along the Danube.Well, it’s going wonderfully! I’ve lost the 5 kilos I put back on after my initial diet three years ago when I lost 20 kilos, despite the fact that I am now eating a lot of foods I had thought I’d have to give up forever.I actually look forward to our fast days, when I have 500 calories and Jean Michel has 600, and which we plan according to what’s going on that week but which are usually 3 or 4 days apart. Mondays and Thursdays or Fridays are typical choices, but the beauty of the 5:2 fast is that there are no fixed days.  We continue to always eat the same thing on those days, as it suits us that way.The amazing thing is that I am not hungry on fast days

The American dream is all about making a fortune on your terms, not working for The Man on his. If you’ve got big ideas and feel stifled by your current career path, it’s natural to begin pondering what it would be like to kick down the walls of your cubicle and start fresh with a company you believe in and trust: your own. However, the worst mistake would be to act purely on passion without reasoning how you’ll make your dream come true, logically and deliberately, only to end up back where you started. As two entrepreneurs who’ve had some success in going our own way (and plenty of failure we’ve learned from as well), we can show you how to bring this fantasy to fruition.10 Ways to Kick Ass at Work>>> FOLLOW YOUR HEART According to researchers at the University of Tennessee, about 50% of all businesses fail, with 25% closing their doors by the end of Year One. Often, the reason boils down to greed and impatience: People want to get rich quick and can’t handle losses, so they pack it in before they’ve given their venture a chance to succeed.
